The Church of Santa Maria Primerana () is a Catholic Church, Roman Catholic church located in the Tuscany, Tuscan town of Fiesole. It encloses the eastern end of Piazza Mino, next to the Praetorian Palace. History First mentioned in AD 966, the church was built atop the stylobate of a Roman temple, from which a pietra serena pillar was incorporated into the church's north wall. There is also a Roman running north–south that flanks the church. Moreover, findings of nearby Lombards, Lombard sepulchres indicates that the church was once an Early Christianity, early Christian site. The church occupies a prominent position in Piazza Mino, near the Fiesole Cathedral. Due to an image inside of the Mary, mother of Jesus, Virgin Mary it appears that the church is the site of the oldest instance of veneration of the Madonna (art), Madonna in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Fiesole, Diocese of Fiesole, which would form the basis for "Primerana" in the church's name. Niccolò Di Pietro Gerini
Niccolò di Pietro Gerini ( 1340 – 1414) was an Italian painter of the late Gothic period, active mainly in his native Florence although he also carried out commissions in Pisa and Prato. He was not an innovative painter but relied on traditional compositions in which he placed his figures in a stiff and dramatic movement. Early life and family Gerini's father, Pietro Geri, was registered as a member of the Guild of Saint Luke in 1339. In 1368, ''Niccolò Dipintore'' is identified as a member of the ''Arte dei Medici e Speziali'' Guild (Guild of Doctors and Apothecaries, which included painters until 1378) in Florence. Francesco Da Sangallo
Francesco da Sangallo (1494–1576) was an Italian Renaissance sculptor, the son of the architect and sculptor Giuliano da Sangallo. Sangallo was born in Florence. His father took him at the age of ten to Rome where, in 1506, he was present at the identification of the ''Laocoön'' group, an event he described in a letter written in 1567, towards the end of his life. Francesco da Sangallo was a pupil of Andrea Sansovino. The earliest dated sculpture attributed to him is the " Virgin and Child with St. Anne" in Orsanmichele, Florence. Relief is a sculptural method in which the sculpted pieces are bonded to a solid background of the same material. The term ''relief'' is from the Latin verb ''relevo'', to raise. To create a sculpture in relief is to give the impression that the sculpted material has been raised above the background plane. When a relief is carved into a flat surface of stone (relief sculpture) or wood (relief carving), the field is actually lowered, leaving the unsculpted areas seeming higher.
