Chuansha County
Chuansha County (, was a county located in the east of Shanghai until it was fully absorbed by the previously split Pudong New Area in 1993. History Chuansha was originally part of Shanghai County until 1801 and fully upgraded into a county in 1911. In 1951 Chuansha was transfer from Jiangsu Province into Shanghai's direct rule. On 2 May 1990 the northern part of Chuansha County was split and established Pudong New Area Management Committee along with portions of Huangpu, Nanshi, Yangpu districts east of Huangpu River along with the northeastern part of Shanghai County. Finally on 11 October 1992 the remaining portion of Chuansha County was dissolved and merged into Pudong New Area. Pudong
Pudong is a district of Shanghai located east of the Huangpu, the river which flows through central Shanghai. The name ''Pudong'' was originally applied to the Huangpu's east bank, directly across from the west bank or Puxi, the historic city center. It now refers to the broader Pudong New Area, a state-level new area which extends all the way to the East China Sea. The traditional area of Pudong is now home to the Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone and the Shanghai Stock Exchange and many of Shanghai's best-known buildings, such as the Oriental Pearl Tower, the Jin Mao Tower, the Shanghai World Financial Center, and the Shanghai Tower. Huangpu District, Shanghai
Huangpu District (), makes up the eastern part of Shanghai's traditional urban core and is today the most central of Shanghai's 16 districts. Huangpu district is the seat of municipal government, includes key attractions such as The Bund and the Old City God Temple, as well as popular shopping districts such as Nanjing Road, Huaihai Road and Xintiandi. Nanshi District, Shanghai
Nanshi District (, was a district located in central Shanghai until its merger with Huangpu District, Shanghai on 13 June 2000. It had an area of , of which was water, and population of as of June 2000. Location The former Nanshi District, literally "southern city", was the historical core of Shanghai. It included the old, walled city as well as the nearby docklands on both sides of the Huangpu River. Shanghai County was established at the beginning of the Ming Dynasty. A city wall was built to repel the Wokou, and this Ming Dynasty wall defined the extent of urban Shanghai for the next few centuries. Yangpu District
Yangpu District is one of the 16 districts of Shanghai. It is located in northeastern part of downtown Shanghai, bordering the Huangpu River on the east and south, Hongkou District on the west, and Baoshan District on the north. The southern part of Yangpu District is away from the Bund, a major tourist attraction. It is predominantly composed of residential communities, with a total area of and a population of 1.313 million as of 2010. The district administers 12 subdistricts. Huangpu River
The Huangpu (), formerly romanized as Whangpoo, is a river flowing north through Shanghai. The Bund and Lujiazui are located along the Huangpu River. The Huangpu is the biggest river in central Shanghai, with the Suzhou Creek being its major tributary. It is on average wide and deep, and divides the city into two regions: Puxi ("west of Huangpu"), the traditional city center, and Pudong ("east of Huangpu"). Districts Of Shanghai
Shanghai is one of the four direct-controlled municipalities of People's Republic of China, and is further divided into 16 districts. There is no single downtown district in Shanghai as the urban core is scattered across several districts, although Huangpu is generally considered the center of Shanghai. Today's Huangpu is the result of the mergers of three old districts: the original Huangpu District merged with Nanshi District in 2000, and in 2011 Luwan District also merged into Huangpu. Huangpu is now the location of the city hall, The Bund, and shopping areas including the famous Nanjing Road, Huaihai Road, and Xintiandi.
