Chu CJC-3
CJC-3 was an experimental tandem rotor helicopter developed in Taiwan during the 1950s under the director of Major General C.J. Chu (朱家仁). Chu was a Chinese aeronautics engineer, who returned to China following his graduation from MIT in 1926. Chu joined the KMT National Revolutionary Army and was in charge of an aircraft plant in Yunnan that assembled American aircraft and the Soviet Polikarpov I-15. Chu developed his first helicopter in 1945 which he called the Hummingbird Model A. This single seat test craft never flew and was used for static tests until it was damaged when the rotor broke. Chu began to work on another helicopter he called the Hummingbird Model B. This single seat helicopter was similar to the Model A, but achieved flight. Following the fall of the KMT in 1949, Chu was exiled to Taiwan and the helicopter program was scrapped. It was not until the early 1950s that Chu returned with a larger tandem helicopter called the CJC-3. This was flown and tested ...

Tandem Rotors
Tandem, or in tandem, is an arrangement in which a team of machines, animals or people are lined up one behind another, all facing in the same direction. The original use of the term in English was in ''tandem harness'', which is used for two or more draft horses, or other draft animals, harnessed in a single line one behind another, as opposed to a pair, harnessed side by side, or a team of several pairs. The tandem harness allows additional animals to provide pulling power for a vehicle designed for a single animal. The English word ''tandem'' derives from the Latin adverb , meaning ''at length'' or ''finally''. It is a word play, using the Latin phrase (referring to time, not position) for English "at length, lengthwise". Tandem bicycles are named for their tandem seating, a more common arrangement than side-by-side "sociable" seating. ''Tandem'' can also be used more generally to refer to any group of persons or objects working together, not necessarily in line. Automob ...

Hummingbird Model B
The Chu Hummingbird was an experimental co-axial helicopter developed by Chinese aviation engineer Major General C. J. Chu (朱家仁) in China during the 1940s in two versions, designated the Model A and Model B. Model A was a single seat double rotor test craft used for static (non-flying) test and made its debut in March 1948. This model was destroyed when the rotor broke off. A replacement craft named Model B was introduced in 1948 and was able to fly, but the aircraft was abandoned when Chu left for Formosa. Not much is known about either model, as they were abandoned in China after 1949 as Chu evacuated to Taiwan after the victory of the People's Republic of China. A successor model, the CJC-3, was developed by Chu in Taiwan in the 1950s. Specifications (Hummingbird Model A/B) Jia or Model A * Number of seats: 1 * Engine:Kinner B-5 * Rotor diameter: 4.8 m (approx.) * Gross weight: 589.5 kg * Maximum speed (level flight): 136 km/h (84 mph, 73 kn) * Maximum cl ...

1950s Experimental Aircraft
Year 195 ( CXCV) was a common year starting on Wednesday (link will display the full calendar) of the Julian calendar. At the time, it was known as the Year of the Consulship of Scrapula and Clemens (or, less frequently, year 948 ''Ab urbe condita''). The denomination 195 for this year has been used since the early medieval period, when the Anno Domini calendar era became the prevalent method in Europe for naming years. Events By place Roman Empire * Emperor Septimius Severus has the Roman Senate deify the previous emperor Commodus, in an attempt to gain favor with the family of Marcus Aurelius. * King Vologases V and other eastern princes support the claims of Pescennius Niger. The Roman province of Mesopotamia rises in revolt with Parthian support. Severus marches to Mesopotamia to battle the Parthians. * The Roman province of Syria is divided and the role of Antioch is diminished. The Romans annexed the Syrian cities of Edessa and Nisibis. P-V Engineering Forum PV-2
The Piasecki PV-2 was a helicopter designed by Frank Piasecki. The PV-2 is best known for being one of the first successful helicopters flown in the United States. The PV-2 first flew on April 11, 1943.National Aviation Hall of Fame - Frank Piasecki
Developed as a technology demonstrator, the PV-2 brought several new features such as the first dynamically balanced rotor blades, a rigid tail rotor with a tension-torsion pitch change system, and a full rotor pitch control. The PV-2 is now on display at the

Piasecki Aircraft
The Piasecki Aircraft Corporation (PiAC) is a manufacturer of aircraft, principally advanced rotorcraft. It was founded by American vertical flight pioneer Frank Piasecki to develop compound helicopters and other advanced rotorcraft after he was ousted from the leadership of his first company, Piasecki Helicopter.Trimble 1982, pp. 257–258. History The company's origins dated back to 1936 with the formation of the P-V Engineering Forum in 1940 and it was renamed the Piasecki Helicopter Corporation in 1946. After a falling out with other owners, Frank Piasecki and some of his design team left to form Piasecki Aircraft Corporation in 1955. The Piasecki Aircraft Corporation is based in Essington, Pennsylvania and is run by Frank Piasecki's sons; Frederick Weyerhaeuser Piasecki is chairman and John Weyerhaeuser Piasecki is president and CEO. In 2005, the company was selected by the United States Army as the prime contractor for two Future Combat Systems (FCS) unmanned aerial vehic ...

Kuomintang
The Kuomintang (KMT), also referred to as the Guomindang (GMD), the Nationalist Party of China (NPC) or the Chinese Nationalist Party (CNP), is a major political party in the Republic of China, initially on the Chinese mainland and in Taiwan after 1949. It was the sole party in China during the Republican Era from 1928 to 1949, when most of the Chinese mainland was under its control. The party retreated from the mainland to Taiwan on 7 December 1949, following its defeat in the Chinese Civil War. Chiang Kai-shek declared martial law and retained its authoritarian rule over Taiwan under the ''Dang Guo'' system until democratic reforms were enacted in the 1980s and full democratization in the 1990s. In Taiwanese politics, the KMT is the dominant party in the Pan-Blue Coalition and primarily competes with the rival Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). It is currently the largest opposition party in the Legislative Yuan. The current chairman is Eric Chu. The party originate ...

Polikarpov I-15
The Polikarpov I-15 (russian: И-15) was a Soviet biplane fighter aircraft of the 1930s. Nicknamed ''Chaika'' (''russian: Чайка'', "Seagull") because of its gulled upper wings,Gunston 1995, p. 299.Green and Swanborough 1979, p. 10. it was operated in large numbers by the Soviet Air Force, and together with the Polikarpov I-16 monoplane, was one of the standard fighters of the Spanish Republicans during the Spanish Civil War, where it was called Chato (snub-nose). Design and development The design for the 14th fighter for the VVS, the I-14, started as an advanced (for the era) monoplane under the direction of Andrei Tupolev. He grew concerned that the design would not mature, and ordered two backup biplane designs as the I-14A and B just to be safe. Polikarpov had just been released from prison in August 1932, and was handed the I-14A project. When both the I-14 and I-14A were ordered into production, Polikarpov's design, a development of the I-5 fighter became the famous ...
