Christian Vásquez
Christian Vásquez (born 1984, Caracas, Venezuela) is a Venezuelan conductor and violinist. Vásquez began to study violin at age 9, after being accepted to the ''El Sistema'' program in Venezuela, and he played in the ''Sinfónica Infantil de San Sebastián de los Reyes''. In 2001, at age 17, he began conducting studies with José Antonio Abreu. In 2005, Vásquez became music director of the ''Sinfónica Juvenil de Aragua José Félix Ribas'' (José Felix Ribas Juvenile Symphony Orchestra of Aragua). In 2009, Vásquez was named a Gustavo Dudamel conducting fellow with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He is currently music director of the Teresa Carreño Youth Orchestra of Venezuela. In Europe, Vásquez first conducted the Gävle Symphony Orchestra in October 2009. In November 2010, he took up the post of principal guest conductor of the Gävle Symphony Orchestra, and held the post until 2013. El Sistema (which translates to The System) is a publicly financed, voluntary sector, music-education program, founded in Venezuela in 1975 by Venezuelan educator, musician, and activist José Antonio Abreu.Lesniak It later adopted the motto "Music for Social Change." El Sistema-inspired programs provide what the ''International Journal of Applied Psychoanalytic Studies'' describes as "free classical music education that promotes human opportunity and development for impoverished children." José Antonio Abreu Anselmi (May 7, 1939 – March 24, 2018) was a Venezuelan orchestra conductor, pianist, economist, educator, activist, and politician best known for his association with El Sistema. He was honored with the 2009 Latin Grammy Trustees Award, an honor given to people who have contributed to music by the Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences. Politics and academics Born in the small Andean city of Valera, Abreu graduated with a '' summa cum laude'' as an economist at Universidad Católica Andres Bello in Caracas. Gustavo Dudamel
Gustavo Adolfo Dudamel Ramírez (born 26 January 1981) is a Venezuelan conductor and violinist who is the music director of the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Paris Opera. Early life Dudamel was born in Barquisimeto, Venezuela, the son of a trombonist and a voice teacher. He studied music from an early age, becoming involved with El Sistema, the famous Venezuelan musical education program, and took up the violin at age ten. He soon began to study composition. He attended the Jacinto Lara Conservatory, where José Luis Jiménez was among his violin teachers. He then went on to work with José Francisco del Castillo at the Latin-American Violin Academy. The Gävle Symphony Orchestra ( sv, Gävle symfoniorkester) is a symphony orchestra based in Gävle, Sweden. The orchestra is resident at the ''Gävle Konserthus'' (Gävle Concert Hall). The Stavanger Symphony Orchestra ( no, Stavanger Symfoniorkester, SSO) is a symphony orchestra based in Stavanger, Norway. The SSO principal venue is the Stavanger Concert Hall (Stavanger konserthus), performing in the Fartein Valen concert hall. History The Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation founded the orchestra in 1938 as the ''Stavanger musikerforenings orkester'', for radio broadcasts. Steven Sloane (born 1958) is an Israeli-American conductor. Biography Born in Los Angeles, California, Sloane developed an interest in conducting at age 16. He graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a degree in music. Separately, he also took conducting lessons with Eugene Ormandy, Franco Ferrara and Gary Bertini.
