Chittagong-9 is a constituency represented in the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) of Bangladesh since 2018 by Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury of the Awami League. Boundaries The constituency encompasses Chittagong City Corporation wards 15 through 23 and 31 through 35. History The constituency was created for the first general elections in newly independent Bangladesh, held in 1973. Ahead of the 2008 general election, the Election Commission redrew constituency boundaries to reflect population changes revealed by the 2001 Bangladesh census. The 2008 reapportionment added one seat to Chittagong City and altered the boundaries of the three other seats in the city, including this one. Ahead of the 2014 general election, the Election Commission renumbered the seat for Sandwip Upazila from Chittagong-16 to Chittagong-3, bumping up by one the suffix of the former constituency of that name and the higher numbered constituencies in the district. Abdullah Al Noman
Abdullah Al Noman is a Bangladeshi politician who is a vice-chairman of Bangladesh Nationalist Party. He is a 3-term Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Chittagong-9 constituency. He served as a minister of fisheries and food at the Second Khaleda Cabinet. Career Noman was elected to Parliament from Kotwali, Chittagong-9 in 1991. On 19 August 1998, the Bureau of Anti-Corruption Commission sued Noman for failure to submit a wealth statement with Dhanmondi Police Station. The charge sheet was submitted on 30 May 2000. The case was taken over by the Anti-Corruption Commission which succeeded the Bureau of Anti-Corruption Commission in 2004. Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury
Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury (born 26 July 1983) is a Bangladesh Awami League politician. He is the Deputy Minister of Education and a Jatiya Sangsad representing the Chittagong-9 constituency. He is the elder son of veteran Awami politician ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury. Early life and education Chowdhury was born in Chattogram, Bangladesh on 26 July 1983. His father, ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, was a Bangladesh Awami League politician who served as the mayor of Chattogram, the second-largest city in Bangladesh. 2018 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 30 December 2018 to elect 300 directly-elected members of the Jatiya Sangsad. The result was a landslide victory for the Awami League led by Sheikh Hasina. According to political scientist Ali Riaz, the elections were not free and fair. The BBC News reported that they were marred by violence and allegations of vote rigging. Opposition leader Kamal Hossain rejected the results, calling it "farcical" and demanding fresh elections to be held under a neutral government. 1973 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in newly independent Bangladesh on 7 March 1973. The result was a victory for the Bangladesh Awami League, who won 293 of the 300 seats, including eleven constituencies where they were elected unopposed without a vote. Voter turnout was 54.9%. Though the Awami League was already the clear favourite before the elections, Sheikh Mujib's government put major effort into winning every seat. 1988 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 3 March 1988. They were boycotted by several major parties, including the Bangladesh Awami League, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, the Communist Party of Bangladesh, Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Awami League, the National Awami Party (Muzaffar) and the Workers Party of Bangladesh. Jatiya Party (Ershad)
The Jatiya Party ( bn, জাতীয় পার্টি, translit=Jatiyo Party, lit=National Party) is a conservative, nationalist political party in Bangladesh and is currently the main opposition in the Jatiya Sangsad, against the Awami League. The current chairman of the party is Ghulam Muhammad Quader. On 3 January 2019, the party announced its decision to join the Bangladesh Awami League-led Grand Alliance after having been in opposition for the previous parliamentary term.
