Chios Airport
Chios Island National Airport ( el, Κρατικός Αερολιμένας Χίου) is an airport on the island of Chios in Greece. It is also known as Chios National Airport, "Omiros" or Chios Airport located at the region of Kampos, south of the city of Chios. Aircraft up to the size of Airbus A320 are able to land at the airport. History The government-owned airport in Chios is found in the coastal area of the eastern department of the island. Its operations began on 4 August 1969 with Olympic Airways Flight OA560 from Athens. The runway was built with a length of 1,511 x 30 meters, and has not been extended since its construction. The Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority ( el, Υπηρεσία Πολιτικής Αεροπορίας), abbreviated HCAA ( el, ΥΠΑ), is a department of the Greek government under the Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks (Greece), Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks. Chios
Chios (; el, Χίος, Chíos , traditionally known as Scio in English) is the fifth largest Greek island, situated in the northern Aegean Sea. The island is separated from Turkey by the Chios Strait. Chios is notable for its exports of mastic gum and its nickname is "the Mastic Island". Tourist attractions include its medieval villages and the 11th-century monastery of Nea Moni, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Administratively, the island forms a separate municipality within the Chios regional unit, which is part of the North Aegean region. DAFIF () or the ''Digital Aeronautical Flight Information File'' is a comprehensive database of up-to-date aeronautical data, including information on airports, airways, airspaces, navigation data, and other facts relevant to flying in the entire world, managed by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) of the United States. Withdrawal of public access DAFIF was publicly available until October 2006 through the Internet; however, it was closed to public access because "increased numbers of foreign source providers are claiming intellectual property rights or are forewarning NGA that they intend to copyright their source". Currently, only federal and state government agencies, authorized government contractors, and Department of Defense customers are able to access the DAFIF data. Mytilene International Airport "Odysseas Elytis" is the international airport of Mytilene, the capital of the Greek island Lesbos. History The airport began to operate in 1948 however it was 1980 before the first charter flight landed. In December 2015, the privatisation of Mytilene International Airport and 13 other regional airports of Greece was finalised with the signing of the agreement between the Fraport AG/Copelouzos Group joint venture and the state privatisation fund.
