Chinguacousy Township is a former municipality and present-day geographic township in the Regional Municipality of Peel, Ontario, Canada. In 1973, when Peel County became the Regional Municipality of Peel, the township was split in half, with the northern half becoming part of the town of Caledon, and the southern half, along with the township of Toronto Gore, joining the city of Brampton. Chinguacousy Township spanned from what now is Winston Churchill Boulevard to Airport Road, Olde Base Line Road to Steeles Avenue. Several villages were once located within Chinguacousy Township. In most cases only small remnants like churches and cemeteries of many of these former villages exist. Cheltenham is the largest preserved village, while Terra Cotta and Huttonville both have some historic buildings. Chinguacousy Park
Donald M. Gordon Chinguacousy Park, colloquially known as Chinguacousy Park, is a large park in the Bramalea section of Brampton, Ontario, Canada. It is bounded by Queen Street East on the southeast, Bramalea Road on the northeast, and Central Park Drive on the north and west sides. Terry Fox Stadium (Brampton) in the north of the park, sometimes called Terry Fox Track and Field Stadium, has a track and field oval surrounding an artificial turf field with Canadian Football markings and stands for about 1000 spectators. Nathaniel Currie (Ontario Politician)
Nathaniel Currie (Curry) was elected MPP in the 1st Legislative Assembly of Ontario during the Confederation elections of 1867. Born of Irish immigrants in Chinguacousy, Upper Canada, the family farmed in the Glencoe area. His father, Nathaniel Currie Sn. petitioned for land in Mosa County, from York where he had originally petitioned for land in Upper Canada. Currie married Elizabeth Weeks in Mosa in 1845 having ten children together. He was buried in the Oakland Cemetery, Mosa, Row 11, no. 17 at age 74. As an early settler of Mosa Township, he became a Conservative provincial political figure and later Reeve of Glencoe village for many years. Reeve Currie, the unofficial founder of the village, is reputed to have upheld the Black Donnellys right to walk freely in the streets of Glencoe. Shingwauk
Shingwaukonse ( Fiero spelling: ''Zhingwaakoons''; "Little Pine"), or Shingwauk ( Fiero spelling: ''Zhingwaak''; "Pine") (1773–1854) was an Anishnaabe chief, who was instrumental in the establishment of the Garden River First Nation near Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario as a signatory to the Robinson Huron Treaty of 1850. Personal life Shingwaukonse was born in the Sault Ste. Marie area in 1773. The names of his parents are unknown but his mother was from the crane clan. Shingwaukonse had many children including Augustine (1800-1890), Buhgwujjenene (1811-1900), John Askin (1836-1919), and George Menissino (1838-1923). Chinguacousy Secondary School
Chinguacousy Secondary School founded in 1972, is a high school located in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. Since 2000, the school's enrollment has expanded with the development of the surrounding area. The school sports teams and athletic programs have won a number of OFSAA championships; wrestling (1991, 1992, 1993, 1995), curling (1996, 1998), and rugby (1982). Chinguacousy became competitive in basketball and has won several titles since 2000. In 2011, the Junior Boys Cross Country team won the ROPSSAA Championship for the first time since 1997. Bramalea (''Bram-a-lee'') is a large suburban district in the City of Brampton, Ontario, Canada. Bramalea was created as an innovative "new town", and developed as a separate community from the city. Located in the former Chinguacousy Township, Ontario, Chinguacousy Township, it was Canada's first satellite community developed by one of the country's largest real estate developers, ''Bramalea Consolidated Developments'' (later ''Bramalea (company), Bramalea Limited''), formerly known as ''Brampton Leasing''.
