Following is an outline is for the history of Brampton, the fourth largest city in Ontario, Canada. European settlers arrived began to settle the area in the early 19th century, with Brampton being formally incorporated into a village in 1853. Before 20th century The Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation held 648,000 acres of land north of the Head of the Lake Purchase lands and extending to the unceded territory of the Chippewa of Lakes Huron and Simcoe. The area of present day Brampton was covered by the Ajetance Purchase of 1818 between James Ajetance, the chief of the Mississaugas of Credit, and the United Kingdom. Prior to 1834, the only building of consequence at the corner of Hurontario Street and the 5th Sideroad (now Main and Queen Streets in the centre of Brampton), was William Buffy's tavern. Churchville, Brampton
Churchville is a preserved suburban hamlet in the south-west corner of Brampton, Ontario, Canada. It is designated as a heritage community under the ''Ontario Heritage Act''. History Churchville was founded in 1815 by Amaziah Church (1766-1831),From his tombstone in Churchville Cemetery. who built a gristmill on the Credit River in what was then Toronto Township, York County ( Peel County was created from York County in 1851). This small area surrounding the mill on the floodplain of the river valley was where the original settlement was focused. Over the course of its history, the village grew to include homes, a slaughterhouse, a tannery, a school house, a wooden sidewalk, several churches and small hotels and a cemetery. Peel County, Ontario
Peel County is a historic county in the Canadian province of Ontario. Named for Sir Robert Peel, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, the county was organized in 1851. Settlers, however, were in Toronto Township as early as 1807. The Credit River was reserved for the Mississaugas, however they sold their land and moved to the Bruce Peninsula. Formation and history The townships that would eventually constitute Peel were initially part of York County in the Home District, and were designated as the West Riding of York in 1845. McDonnell Douglas DC-8
The Douglas DC-8 (sometimes McDonnell Douglas DC-8) is a long-range narrow-body airliner built by the American Douglas Aircraft Company. After losing the May 1954 US Air Force tanker competition to the Boeing KC-135, Douglas announced in July 1955 its derived jetliner project. In October 1955, Pan Am made the first order along with the competing Boeing 707, and many other airlines followed. The first DC-8 was rolled out in Long Beach Airport on April 9, 1958, and flew for the first time on May 30. FAA certification was achieved in August 1959 and the DC-8 entered service with Delta Air Lines on September 18. The six-abreast, low wing airliner was a four-engined jet aircraft with initial variants being long. Air Canada Flight 621
Air Canada Flight 621 was an Air Canada Douglas DC-8, registered as CF-TIW, that crashed on July 5, 1970, while attempting to land at Toronto Pearson International Airport. It was flying on a Montreal–Toronto–Los Angeles route. It crashed in Toronto Gore Township, Ontario, Toronto Gore Township, now part of Brampton. All 100 passengers and 9 crew on board were killed, and at the time it was Canada's Trans-Canada Air Lines Flight 831, second-deadliest aviation accident. Aircraft The aircraft involved was a Douglas DC-8 60 series, powered by four Pratt & Whitney JT3D engines and delivered new to Air Canada just three months prior to the accident. At the time of the incident the aircraft had accumulated only 453 hours of flight time. The aircraft was registered CF-TIW and was the 526th DC-8 built at the Long Beach assembly plant.
