Chen Jhong-he Memorial Hall
The Chen Jhong-he Memorial Hall () is a memorial hall dedicated to Chen Jhong-he located in Lingya District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. History In 1911, Chen Jhong-he used to be the richest man in Kaohsiung. He built a Western-style terrace which was completed in 1920 which then became the first private Western residence in the city. His descendants funded renovation to the building to commemorate him and then named the building as Chen Jhong-he Memorial Hall which is now open to public. Architecture The 2-story building was built in a European Renaissance style. However, the symmetrical layout of the main hall and patient's wards resembles traditional Taiwanese hospitals. Transportation The building is accessible within walking distance west from Sanduo Shopping District Station of Kaohsiung MRT. Lingya District () is a district of Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The 85 Sky Tower and the Kaohsiung City Hall are located here. Lingya District is the administrative center of Kaohsiung City along with Fongshan District. Its population is around 162,356 as of May 2022. It is the 6th most-populated district in Kaohsiung, with a population density of 19,916 people per square kilometer, or 51,581 people per square mile. It has a area of 8.1522 square kilometers, or 3.1476 square miles. The average elevation of Lingya is 6 meters, or 20 feet. Sanduo Shopping District Metro Station
Sanduo Shopping District is a station on the Red line of Kaohsiung MRT in Lingya District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The station is named after the Sanduo Shopping District. Station Overview The station is a two-level, underground station with an island platform and seven exits. It is 213 meters long and is located at the intersection of Zhongshan 2nd Rd. and Sanduo 3rd Rd. The station is unique in the Kaohsiung MRT for two reasons. First, it is the only underground station with an open platform, allowing for passengers to see the platform directly from the lobby area (similar to many underground stations on the Taipei Metro). The other is the unique design of the elevator; the structure is incorporated both into the lighting on the ceiling as well as the platform level. Kaohsiung Metro () is a rapid transit and light rail system covering the metropolitan area of Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Its rapid transit network is known as Kaohsiung Mass Rapid Transit or Kaohsiung MRT. The Tomb of Chen Jhong-he () is a tomb of a prominent businessman Chen Jhong-he in Lingya District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. History Chen Jhong-he was a rose to prominence during the end of Qing Dynasty and early Japanese rule of Taiwan which made him one of the most important entrepreneur and wealthy businessman. He died in 1916, and the construction of his tomb started in 1930. After five years of construction work, the tomb was completed in 1935.
