Charlotte Pothuis
Charlotte Pothuis (1 April 1867 – 24 January 1945) was a Dutch painter. Biography Pothuis was born on 1 April 1867 in London, England. She studied at the (''English:Day drawing school for girls'') in Amsterdam. She also received instruction from Henriëtte Asscher, Meijer de Haan, Wilhelmina Cornelia Kerlen, Bartol Wilhelm van Laar, and Jan Zürcher. In 1891 she married fellow artist Karel Alexander August Jan Boom (1862-1943). She was a member of the ''Vereeniging Sint Lucas Amsterdam'' (Amsterdam Artists Association of Sint Lucas) and the Arti et Amicitiae artist's society. Pothuis' work was included in the 1939 exhibition and sale ''Onze Kunst van Heden'' (Our Art of Today) at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. In June 1896 she opened a photography studio with her colleague Anna Sluijter. Henriëtte Asscher (July 18, 1858 – April 9, 1933) was a Dutch painter. Biography Asscher was born on 18 July 1858 in Amsterdam. She studied at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten (State Academy of Fine Arts) and the (National Normal School for Drawing Teachers). Her teachers included Eduard Frankfort. Meijer De Haan
Meijer Isaac de Haan (Amsterdam, April 14, 1852 – Amsterdam, October 24, 1895) was a Dutch painter. In French the name was written Meyer de Haan. Biography He was born into a successful Jewish family of bread and matzo bakers who held to conservative views of religion, music and art. His maternal grandfather was a rich fabric merchant who owned several residential buildings. An interest in fine art brought him to apprentice with the painter Petrus Franciscus Greive. In 1874, he was accepted into the Rijksacademie van beeldende kunsten at Amsterdam, but performed poorly. In 1880, one of his works was exhibited at the Paris Salon of that year. That same year, an illustration of de Haan's picture ''Een moeilijke plaats in de Talmoed'' appeared in the newspaper ''Eigen Haard'', which generated much published discussion (not so much aesthetic as theological). Arti Et Amicitiae
Arti et Amicitiae (lat .: For Art and Friendship) is a Dutch artist's society founded in 1839, and located on the Rokin in Amsterdam. The Society (also called Arti for short) has played a key role in the Netherlands art scene and in particular in the Amsterdam art schools. It was and is to this day a hub for artists and art lovers in the city of Amsterdam. It is a private institution which supports artists, maintains social networks and offers a pension fund. Onze Kunst van Heden (Contemporary Artists/Our Art of Today) was an exhibition held in the winter of 1939 through 1940 at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Due to the threat of invasion in the years leading up to World War II, the Netherlands' government stored many items from the Rijksmuseum's permanent collection. The resulting empty gallery space was utilized by contemporary Dutch artists to exhibit and sell their art. It was organized by the director of the Rijksmuseum . The show was open to all artists, with each artist allowed to enter four pieces. 902 artists exhibited 3,200 works of art in 74 rooms and cabinets of the Rijksmuseum.
