Charlie Venegas (born February 12, 1967 in San Bernardino, California, United States) is a professional motorcycle speedway, speedway rider in the United States. He represented the USA speedway team, USA in the 2007 Speedway World Cup. Venegas has been United States Individual Speedway Championship, USA National Champion twice and has been successful at Ice speedway#Motorcycle ice racing, ice speedway, becoming Indoor Ice Race World Champion four times and lifting the Indoor Ice World Cup three times with USA. Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track, the motorcycles reach speeds of up to . USA Speedway Team
The United States national speedway team are an international speedway team from the United States who compete in the annual major international speedway competitions including the Speedway World Cup and Speedway of Nations and the former events the Speedway World Team Cup and the Speedway World Pairs Championship. They are managed by Lance King, who finished third in the 1984 World Final and the current captain is triple and four times world champion Greg Hancock. The 2007 Speedway World Cup (SWC) was the 7th FIM Speedway World Cup season. The Final took place on July 21, 2007 in the Alfred Smoczyk Stadium in Leszno, Poland. The tournament was won by host team Poland (55 pts) and they beat defending champion Denmark (52 pts), Australia (29 pts) and Great Britain (15 pts) in the Final. Ice speedway is a developed form of motorcycle speedway racing, featuring racing on frozen surfaces. The sport uses bikes enhanced for the terrain. Participants can compete at international level.
