The Charleston Southern Buccaneers football program is the intercollegiate American football team for Charleston Southern University located in the U.S. state of South Carolina. The team competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) and are members of the Big South Conference. Charleston Southern's first football team was fielded in 1991. The team plays its home games at the 4,000 seat Buccaneer Field in North Charleston, South Carolina and are currently coached by Gabe Giardina. Jeff Barber (athletic Director)
Jeff Barber (born January 12, 1958) is an American college athletics administrator, currently the athletic director at Charleston Southern University. He was previously the athletic director at Liberty University from 2006 to 2016. During his tenure at Liberty, Barber oversaw extensive growth in the Flames' athletic program, including the building of new venues for the school's baseball and softball programs. He also made the decision to eliminate Liberty's wrestling program in 2011, in order to bring the university in compliance with federal Title IX regulations. However, after several years of attempts, he was unable to secure Liberty an invitation to move up to a Football Bowl Subdivision conference, after several years of school president Jerry Falwell Jr. publicly stating Liberty's wish to reclassify. Charles James II (born May 14, 1990) is a former American football cornerback. He played college football at Charleston Southern, and signed with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2013. James has also been a member of the Houston Texans, Baltimore Ravens, Indianapolis Colts, Buffalo Bills, Jacksonville Jaguars, Memphis Express, St. Louis BattleHawks, and Houston Roughnecks. The South Carolina State Bulldogs football team represents South Carolina State University in college football. The Bulldogs play in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) as a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). The South Carolina Gamecocks football program represents the University of South Carolina. The Gamecocks compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Eastern Division of the Southeastern Conference. The 2015 Charleston Southern Buccaneers football team represented Charleston Southern University as a member of the Big South Conference during the 2015 NCAA Division I FCS football season.
