Channel 55 refers to several television stations. In System M and System N countries, channel 55 is allocated to UHF frequencies covering 717.25-721.75 MHz. In the United States and Canada, the bandwidth used by channel 55 has been reallocated for wireless communication use, with its use for television broadcasting being phased out. This frequency was formerly in use by MediaFLO, a US system developed by Qualcomm to send video and media to mobile devices, which was discontinued in February 2011, with the bandspace sold by Qualcomm where possible to AT&T Mobility AT&T Mobility LLC, also known as AT&T Wireless and marketed as simply AT&T, is an American telecommunications company. CCIR System M
CCIR System M, sometimes called 525–line, monochrome NTSC or NTSC-M, is the analog broadcast television system approved by the FCC (upon recommendation by the National Television Systems Committee - NTSC) for use in the United States since July 1, 1941, replacing the 441-line TV system introduced in 1938. System M displays a total of 525 lines of video (with 480 carrying visible image information) at 30 frames per second using 6 MHz spacing between channel numbers, and is used for both VHF and UHF channels. It was also adopted in most of the Americas and Caribbean, South Korea, Taiwan and Japan (here with minor differences, informally referred to as ''System J)''. North American Television Frequencies
The Pan-American television frequencies are different for terrestrial and cable television systems. Terrestrial television channels are divided into two bands: the VHF band which comprises channels 2 through 13 and occupies frequencies between 54 and 216 MHz, and the UHF band, which comprises channels 14 through 36 and occupies frequencies between 470 and 700 MHz. These bands are different enough in frequency that they often require separate antennas to receive (although many antennas cover both VHF and UHF), and separate tuning controls on the television set. The VHF band is further divided into two frequency ranges: VHF low band (Band I) between 54 and 88 MHz, containing channels 2 through 6, and VHF high band (Band III) between 174 and 216 MHz, containing channels 7 through 13. MediaFLO
MediaFLO was a technology developed by Qualcomm for transmitting audio, video and data to portable devices such as mobile phones and personal televisions, used for mobile television. In the United States, the service powered by this technology was branded as FLO TV. Broadcast data transmitted via MediaFLO includes live, real time audio and video streams, as well as scheduled video and audio clips and shows. The technology could also carry Internet Protocol datacast application data, such as stock market quotes, sports scores, and weather reports. In October 2010, Qualcomm announced it was suspending new sales of the service to consumers. In December 2010, AT&T announced that it will purchase Qualcomm's FCC licenses in the 700 MHz band. It is part of Radio y Televisión de Nuevo León and broadcasts on 24 transmitters serving the entire state. History XHMNL-TV and its Monterrey transmitter signed on May 14, 1982, as part of the Televisión de la República Mexicana/Televisión Rural de México system. The original offices were located on the 27th and 28th floors of the Latino Building in Monterrey.
