Chamayam (1993 Film)
''Chamayam'' is a 1993 Indian Malayalam-language drama film directed by Bharathan and written by John Paul, starring Manoj K. Jayan, Murali and Sithara in the lead roles. The film is about the lives of two fishermen who are also stage actors. Plot Esthappan Aasan is a veteran stage artist and director who is also a fisherman for a living. He runs a drama troupe along with his daughter Liza and another drama actor Charlie. Anto is a fisherman in the same area whose friend Pappi is an actor at Esthappan Aasan’s drama troupe. Anto is a wayward youth mostly into drinking and gambling in his free time and lives with his sister Ammu. Pappi’s sister Ponnu has a crush on Anto and secretly dotes for him. Bharathan
Bharathan (14 November 1946 – 30 July 1998) was an Indian film maker, artist, and art director. Bharathan is noted for being the founder of a new school of film making in Malayalam cinema, along with Padmarajan and K. G. George, in the 1980s, which created films that were widely received while also being critically acclaimed. A train of directors, and screenwriters followed this school onto the 1990s including Sibi Malayil, Kamal, Lohithadas and Jayaraj. Padma Shri Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri, popularly known as Kaithapram, is a Malayalam lyricist, poet, music director, actor, singer, screenwriter, music therapist and performer of Carnatic music. Palappurathu Kesavan Surendranatha Thilakan (15 July 1935 – 24 September 2012) was an Indian film and stage actor who appeared in over 200 Malayalam films. Thilakan was known for his elaborate method acting, realistic and spontaneous appearances. He is considered by many to be one of the greatest Indian actors of all time. John Paul (29 October 1950 – 23 April 2022) was an Indian scriptwriter, producer, author and actor who worked in Malayalam cinema. He is best known for his work in 1980s and early 1990s. Early life John Paul was born in Ernakulam as the only son of P.V. Paulose and Rebecca on 29 October 1950. After completing his BA and MA in Economics from Maharaja’s College he joined Canara Bank in 1972. In 1983, he resigned the job and fully focused on movies.
