Central Organisation Of Finnish Trade Unions
The Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions, usually referred to by the acronym SAK ( fi, Suomen Ammattiliittojen Keskusjärjestö; sv, Finlands Fackförbunds Centralorganisation, FFC) is the largest trade union confederation in Finland. Its member organisations have a total of more than one million members, which makes up about one fifth of the country's population. History The other two Finnish trade unions confederations are the Finnish Confederation of Salaried Employees (STTK) and the Confederation of Unions for Academic Professionals in Finland (AKAVA). The Construction Trade Union ( fi, Rakennusliitto) is a trade union representing workers in the construction industry in Finland. The union was founded in 1924, when the Finnish Painters' Union merged with the Finnish Stonemasons' Union, the Finnish Union of Civil and Road Construction Workers, and sections of the Finnish Woodworkers' Union and the Finnish Union of Sawmill, Transportation and General Workers. Initially affiliated to the Finnish Trade Union Federation, from 1930, it was affiliated to the Finnish Federation of Trade Unions. The Prison Officers' Union ( fi, Vankilavirkailijain Liitto, VVL) is a trade union representing prison and probation staff in Finland. The union was founded in 1895. From 1945 until 1960, it was affiliated to the Finnish Federation of Trade Unions (SAK). It also joined the Federation of Civil Servants, and when in 1969 that became the Joint Organisation of State Employees (VTY), it became indirectly affiliated to the SAK's successor, the Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions. The Paperworkers' Union ( fi, Paperiliitto) is a trade union representing workers in the paper industry, in Finland. History The union was established in 1906, on the initiative of the Tampere Paper Industry Workers' Union. Initially a successful organisation, it split in 1930 between supporters of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and a communist-led group. The communist group was soon banned, so the SDP's Finnish Paper Industry Workers' Union viewed itself as the successor of the earlier union. The Industrial Union ( fi, Teollisuusliitto) is a trade union representing workers in light and heavy industries in Finland. The union was founded on 1 January 2018, when the Industrial Union TEAM merged with the Metalworkers' Union and the Wood and Allied Workers' Union. The Finnish Transport Workers' Union ( fi, Auto- ja Kuljetusalan Työntekijäliitto, AKT) is a trade union representing transport workers in Finland. The union was founded in 1970, when the Automobile and Transport Workers' Union merged with the Finnish Road Transport Union, and the Finnish Port Workers' Union. Some of these unions had been affiliated to the Finnish Federation of Trade Unions, and some to the Finnish Trade Union Federation. Finnish Seafarers' Union
The Finnish Seafarers' Union (FSU, formerly known as Finnish Seamen's Union; fi, Suomen Merimies-Unioni, SMU) is a trade union representing maritime and inland waterway transport workers in Finland. The Helsinki Seamen's and Firemen's Union was founded in 1916, and from 1920, it was known as the Finnish Seamen's and Firemen's Union, covering the whole country. The Finnish Musicians' Union ( fi, Suomen Muusikkojen Liitto ry, sv, Finlands Musikerförbund rf) is a trade union representing musicians in Finland. The union was founded in 1917, and was initially led by Robert Kajanus. While most of the union's members, its leading figures were composers, but in 1945 they split away to form the Finnish Society of Composers.
