Celina ( ) is a city in and the county seat of Mercer County, Ohio, United States about 58 miles northwest of Dayton, Ohio, Dayton. The population was 10,400 at the United States Census 2010, 2010 census. Celina is situated on the northwestern shores of Grand Lake St. Marys. History James Watson Riley established Celina in 1834. The settlement was named after Salina, New York. The town was hit by Tornado outbreak sequence of May 2019#Celina, Ohio, a deadly EF3 tornado on May 27, 2019. Tornado Outbreak Sequence Of May 2019
The tornado outbreak sequence of May 2019 was a prolonged series of destructive tornadoes and tornado outbreaks affecting the United States over the course of nearly two weeks, producing a total of 400 tornadoes, including 53 significant events (EF2+). Eighteen of these were EF3 tornadoes, spanning over multiple states, including Nebraska, Kansas, Texas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Indiana, Iowa, and Ohio, with additional tornadoes confirmed across a region extending from California to New Jersey.
