Carl-Alexander Von Volborth
Carl-Alexander von Volborth (February 21, 1919, Berlin-Charlottenburg – February 25, 2009, Antwerp) was a German-born fine artist and American heraldic artist and heraldist. Born in Berlin-Charlottenburg, Volborth received the Gustaf von Numers Prize 1984 in the XVIth International Congress of Genealogical and Heraldic Sciences in Helsinki. He was a member of HEROLD, Verein für Heraldik, Genealogie und verwandte Wissenschaften zu Berlin e. V. from 1990 and a member of Académie Internationale d'Héraldique. Volborth lived and worked in the United States (Cincinnati, Ohio) from 1953 to 1968. In Cincinnati, Ohio he taught at the Central Academy for Commercial Art, art history on WCET Educational Television, and the University of Cincinnati Evening College. He briefly shared an art studio with the well-known photographer Kazik Pazovski, where he taught art classes and conducted seminars and lecture series. Charlottenburg () is a Boroughs and localities of Berlin, locality of Berlin within the borough of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. Gustaf Von Numers Prize
Gustaf von Numers (31 July 1912 – 21 May 1978) was a Swedish-speaking Finnish civil servant and leading heraldic artist. Life Gustaf von Numers studied heraldry in the 1930s under Arvid Berghman and was considered one of the leading Finnish experts in the area. He was a tireless writer on all heraldic matters. Together with colleagues in the field, he contributed to the initiation of the parliamentary law on communal coats of arms in 1949. Von Numers designed several communal coats of arms (including Jakobstad, Porvoo and Varpaisjärvi), military banners and personal and family heraldic signs. L'Académie Internationale d'Héraldique (known in English as the International Academy Of Heraldry) was founded in Paris in 1949 to bring together experts in heraldry representing the various areas of the world. Admission is by election, and the number of active ''academicians'' is limited to 75. There is no limit to the number of ''associate members''. Chesshyre served for more than forty years as an officer of arms in ordinary to Queen Elizabeth II and as a member of Her Majesty's Household.
