Caquetaia
''Caquetaia'' is a small genus of cichlid fishes from tropical South America. The genus currently contains three species. ''Caquetaia spp.'' are ambush predators that predominantly feed on invertebrates. Seasonal fluctuations in water level have been shown to contribute to ''Caquetaia spp.'' consuming a larger variety of invertebrates, especially when the water level is low during dry seasons. ''Caquetaia'' are known for their highly protrusible jaws, an adaptation hypothesized to improve their ability to capture prey by enhancing overall ram velocity. ''Caquetaia myersi'' is a species of fish, a large predatory cichlid, which is endemic to the basin of the Amazon River, specifically the Putumayo and Napo rivers of Ecuador and Colombia. The specific name honours the American ichthyologist George S. ''Caquetaia kraussii'' is a species of fish endemic to the basin of the Atrato, Cauca, Magdalena, as well as the basin of Lake Maracaibo. The fish has been introduced to the Orinoco River basin. The specific name honours the German naturalist Christian F. F. Krauss (1812-1890) who was director of the Royal Natural History Cabinet in Stuttgart. Turquoise Cichlid
The turquoise cichlid (''Kronoheros umbriferus''), also known as the umbee cichlid, is a species of cichlid fish found in freshwater habitats of eastern Panama and central and western Colombia. It is commonly caught as a food fish, and sometimes kept in aquariums. This robust fish is the largest cichlid native to its range, up to in weight and long, and in the Americas only certain peacock bass and the wolf cichlid may reach a greater size. Females of the turquoise cichlid remain significantly smaller than males. It is strongly predatory, typically feeding on fish and other small animals, but it may also take fruits and seeds. Heroini
Heroini is a fish tribe from the Cichlasomatinae subfamily in the cichlid family. All cichlids native to the Greater Antilles, United States (southern Texas), Mexico and northern Central America are members of this tribe. It also includes most cichlid species in southern Central America (where only non-Heroini cichlids are '' Andinoacara'' and '' Geophagus'') and several species from South America (where several other tribes exist). A large percentage of its species were formerly placed in the genus '' Cichlasoma'' (itself now placed in the tribe Cichlasomatini), but have since been moved to other genera. Henry Weed Fowler
Henry Weed Fowler (March 23, 1878 – June 21, 1965) was an American zoologist born in Holmesburg, Pennsylvania. He studied at Stanford University under David Starr Jordan. He joined the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia and worked as an assistant from 1903 to 1922, associate curator of vertebrates from 1922 to 1934, curator of fish and reptiles from 1934 to 1940 and curator of fish from 1940 to 1965. He published material on numerous topics including crustaceans, birds, reptiles and amphibians, but his most important work was on fish. In 1927 he co-founded the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists and acted as treasurer until the end of 1927. In biology, a species is the basic unit of classification and a taxonomic rank of an organism, as well as a unit of biodiversity.
