Canoeing At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Men's Slalom C-2
The men's C-2 slalom competition in canoeing at the 2008 Summer Olympics took place between August 13 and 15, 2008 at the Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park in Beijing. The C-2 (canoe single) event is raced by two-man canoes through a whitewater course. The finals were rescheduled from the 14th to the 15th due to persistent lightning at the Park. There were three rounds of competitions: the heats, the semifinal, and the final. In the heats, each canoeist completed two runs of the course. The time, in seconds, of each run was added to the number of penalty points assessed. Touching any of the 21 slalom gates resulted in a 2-second penalty for each gate touched, while skipping any of the gates resulted in a 50-second penalty. The total times for the two preliminary runs were summed to give a score for the heats. The top 12 boats advanced to the semifinals. The semifinals consisted of a single run. Canoe slalom (previously known as whitewater slalom) is a competitive sport with the aim to navigate a Spraydeck, decked canoe or kayak through a course of hanging downstream or upstream gates on Whitewater, river rapids in the fastest time possible. It is one of the two kayak and canoeing disciplines at the Summer Olympics, and is referred to by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as Canoe/Kayak Slalom. The other Olympic canoeing discipline is canoe racing, canoe sprint. Wildwater canoeing is a non-Olympic paddlesport. Shu Junrong
Shu Junrong (; born June 25, 1988, in Mayang, Hunan) is a former Chinese male slalom canoeist specializing in the C2 event with Hu Minghai. The pair competed together from 2003, when they were first paired until the 2013 National Games. Early life Shu was born into a Slalom canoeing family in Shiyantan village (石眼潭村), Jiangkouya town (江口墟镇), Mayang, Hunan. His elder brother Shu Yong (舒用) was the gold medalist in K1 at two national games and the gold medalist at the 2000 Asian Championships. Hu Minghai
Hu Minghai (; born April 19, 1989, in Yueyang, Hunan) is a former Chinese male slalom canoeist specializing in the C2 event. He and his partner Shu Junrong competed together as a team from 2003 to the 2013 National Games. Early life Hu was born in Wensheng residential community () of Rongjiawan (荣家湾), Yueyang county, Hunan. As a small child he used to go swimming and rowing in a fishing boat behind his parents' back in summer in a pond near his home.
