Canoe Lake (Saskatchewan)
Canoe Lake is a lake in north-western Canadian province of Saskatchewan. Settlements on the lake include Canoe Narrows, Cole Bay, Jans Bay. The lake is accessed from Highways 965 and 903. On the western shore is a provincial recreation site called Canoe Lake Recreation Site. The Canoe River flows east from the lake to Lac Île-à-la-Crosse. Canoe Lake Recreation Site Most of the western shore of the lake from Cole Bay in the south to Anderson Bay is the north is part of Canoe Lake Recreation Site (). The park, which is leased to a private operator, covers an area of and has a campground with 46 campsites. The park also has a boat launch and offers access to the lake for water sports, fishing, and swimming. Access is from Highway 903. Highway 903 is a provincial highway in the north-west region of the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It begins at Highway 55 in RM of Meadow Lake No. 588, east of the town of Meadow Lake, and heads north past Waterhen Lake, Keeley Lake, Upper Cumins Lake, and Canoe Lake en route to Vermette Lake. The longnose sucker (''Catostomus catostomus'') is a species of cypriniform freshwater fish in the family Catostomidae. It is native to North America from the northern United States to the top of the continent. It is also found in Russia in rivers of eastern Siberia, and thus one of only two species of sucker native to Asia (the other is the Chinese ''Myxocyprinus asiaticus''). This is a list of protected areas of Saskatchewan. National parks Provincial parks The Government of Canada, federal government transferred control of natural resources to the Western Canada, western provinces in 1930 with the Natural Resources Acts. At that time, the Saskatchewan government set up its own Department of Natural Resources. In an attempt to get people working and to encourage tourism during the Great Depression, several projects were set up by the government, including setting up a provincial park system in 1931.
