Canadian Country Music Association
The Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) was founded in 1976 as the Academy of Country Music Entertainment to organize, promote and develop a Canadian country music industry. The groundwork for the association began on June 3rd, 1973 when a group of twelve entertainers, promoters and radio personalities met at The Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto, Ontario and formed a Board of Directors to help promote Canadian content. The group included Jury Krytiuk, president of Boot Records, Bod Dalton, a promotor, Sean Eyre, DJ Lindsay, radio personality Harold Moon who worked for BMI Records, Jack Starr of The Horseshoe Tavern, Barry Haugen of RCA Records, Vic Folliott of Brantford Radio, Mary Butterill of CAPAC Publishing and Ben Kerr who was a prominent promoter and Brent Williams, a notable country and bluegrass entertainer. Ronnie Prophet
Ronald Lawrence Victor Prophet (26 December 1937 – 2 March 2018) was a Canadian-American country musician and comedy performer. He was born in Hawkesbury, Ontario, Canada. In his childhood, Prophet lived in Calumet, Quebec, and began performing at local venues in his youth. His successful musical career in the United States began in the mid-1960s. Prophet also performed in numerous Canadian television productions in the 1970s including '' Grand Old Country'' and '' The Ronnie Prophet Show''. From 1997, he was based in Branson, Missouri, United States, and was married to musician Glory-Anne Carriere. Prophet died on 2 March 2018 at his home in Tavares, Florida, following cardiac and kidney failure. He was 80. Anita Perras
Anita Perras (born 17 March 1960) is a Canadian country music singer. Perras has released six solo albums, three duo albums with former husband Tim Taylor, and charted twenty-six songs on the ''RPM'' Country Tracks chart between 1981 and 1995. Her top 10 singles include "Heads You Win, Tails I Lose" (#10, 1986), "Isn't That the Strangest Thing" (with Tim Taylor, No. 10, 1988), "One Smokey Rose" (#9, 1988), "The Tip of My Fingers" (#9, 1989), "Touch My Heart" (#10, 1990) " Here Comes My Baby" (#9, 1990) and "It Might as Well Be Me" (#10, 1993). Mercey Brothers
The Mercey Brothers were a Canadian country music group active from 1957 to 1989. The brothers were seven-time Juno Award winners for "The Top Country Group" and were inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame. Early life All three Mercey brothers were born in Hanover, a small town south of Owen Sound, Ontario. Larry Mercey, the eldest of three, was born on December 12, 1939; Ray was born on November 21, 1940, and Lloyd, the youngest, was born on December 12, 1945. Carroll Anne Baker CM (born March 4, 1949) is a Canadian country music singer and songwriter. Early life Baker was born in Port Medway, Nova Scotia. Baker was surrounded by music as a little girl but she objected when her musical family launched into their repertoire of country songs. She preferred rock 'n' roll. She even objected when her father, a fiddler with many accomplishments, said to her "one day, you'll love country music." She doubted it. Growing up in a small town in Nova Scotia, Baker was immediately drawn to singing and making music with her friends and get into some occasional trouble as she states "there was nothing to do, except get into trouble, and we did our share of that too."
