Caazapá Department
Caazapá () is a department in Paraguay. The capital is the city of Caazapá. Among Paraguayans, the department is well known for its orange and mandarin trees, and for its forest hills. The eastern part of Caazapá is relatively undeveloped and consists of rolling hills and large swaths of Brazilian Atlantic interior rainforest between the San Rafael mountains to the south and the Ybytyruzú mountains to the north. The western part is an area of low-lying marshes and swampland area, and consists of wetlands and tributaries to eastern Paraguay's largest river, the Tebicuary. Many indigenous groups make their home in what remains of the rainforest, especially south of the unpaved highway between San Juan Nepomuceno and Tavaí. Mby'a and Guayaki people, who practice farming corn, cassava and yerba mate under the canopy of the forest live in small bands and travel mainly by foot. Yerba Mate
Yerba mate or yerba-maté (''Ilex paraguariensis''; from Spanish ; pt, erva-mate, or ; gn, ka'a, ) is a plant species of the holly genus ''Ilex'' native to South America. It was named by the French botanist Augustin Saint-Hilaire. The leaves of the plant can be steeped in hot water to make a beverage known as ''mate''. Brewed cold, it is used to make ''tereré''. Both the plant and the beverage contain caffeine. The indigenous Guaraní and some Tupí communities (whose territory covered present-day Paraguay) first cultivated and consumed yerba mate prior to European colonization of the Americas. Its consumption was exclusive to the natives of only two regions of the territory that today is Paraguay, more specifically the departments of Amambay and Alto Paraná. San Juan Nepomuceno is a city and district in the Paraguayan department of Caazapá. It has the largest urban conglomeration of the department. Location It lies 249 km southeast of the national capital city, Asuncion, at the terminus of the Blas Garay highway. Blas Garay is a spur of the national highway Number 8 and forks at a crossroads near the town of Ñumí. Buena Vista is a city in Paraguay, Caazapá Department; the beginning of this city was the result of the new political division of the country on June 25, 1945. Etymology Its name describes the beautiful environment of the place. Geography Buena Vista is 266 km away from Asunción. Weather Temperatures range from 21 °C to 37 °C in summer, in winter the minimum is 1 °C.
