The C Spire Ferriss Trophy was created in the fall of 2003 by the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame to honor the Mississippi Collegiate Baseball Player of the Year. University Of Mississippi
The University of Mississippi ( byname Ole Miss) is a public research university that is located adjacent to Oxford, Mississippi, and has a medical center in Jackson. It is Mississippi's oldest public university and its largest by enrollment. The Mississippi Legislature chartered the university on February 24, 1844, and four years later it admitted its first 80 students. During the Civil War, the university operated as a Confederate hospital and narrowly avoided destruction by Ulysses S. Grant's forces. In 1962, during the civil rights movement, a race riot occurred on campus when segregationists tried to prevent the enrollment of African American student James Meredith. The university has since taken measures to improve its image. 2014 Ole Miss Rebels Baseball Team
The 2014 Ole Miss Rebels baseball team represented the University of Mississippi, familiarly known as ''Ole Miss'', in the 2014 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Rebels were led by 14th-year head coach Mike Bianco, and played their home games in Oxford at Swayze Field, adjacent to campus. They compete in the Southeastern Conference's Western Division, and won their division in 2014. The Rebels hosted an NCAA regional and defeated the #13 Washington Huskies twice in one-run games to finish undefeated. In the Super Regional at Louisiana-Lafayette, Ole Miss won in three games to advance to the College World Series, their first since 1972. The Rebels reached the semifinals and lost twice to Virginia. Ole Miss lost their opener by a run, then eliminated Texas Tech and TCU to reach the semifinals, but fell again to Virginia. 2018 Mississippi State Bulldogs Baseball Team
The 2018 Mississippi State Bulldogs baseball team represents the Mississippi State University in the 2018 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Bulldogs play their home games at Dudy Noble Field. Due to construction of the new Dudy Noble Field, the first home game was not played until March 6, to give construction crews time to finish the bottom seating of the stadium. The new Dudy Noble Field in its entirety will not be completed until the 2019 season. Jake Thomas Mangum (born March 8, 1996) is an American professional baseball outfielder in the Miami Marlins organization. He played college baseball for the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Early life and high school Mangum was born in Flowood, Mississippi, raised in nearby Pearl, Mississippi, and attended Jackson Preparatory School in Flowood. While playing for the Patriots Mangum was a member of three consecutive state championship teams in baseball and was named a Louisville Slugger All-American in 2013 and 2015 and Perfect Game All-American in 2013, 2014 and 2015 and Mississippi Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) first team All-State in 2014 and 2015. Matthew John Wallner (born December 12, 1997) is an American professional baseball outfielder for the Minnesota Twins of Major League Baseball (MLB). Born and raised in Forest Lake, Minnesota, Wallner played three years of college baseball at the University of Southern Mississippi. Dakota Ryan Hudson (born September 15, 1994) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2018. Amateur career Hudson attended Sequatchie County High School in Dunlap, Tennessee. During his junior year in 2012, he committed to Mississippi State University to play college baseball. As a senior, he had a 1.09 earned run average (ERA) with 124 strikeouts in 64 innings.
