CSB News, acronym of Chronus Satellite Broadcast was Bangladesh's first, albeit short-lived, 24-hour news & current affairs channel. It started broadcasting test transmissions from March 24, 2007 and started commercially broadcasting from April 9, 2007. Closure On August 23, 2007 the Ministry of Information of Bangladesh had asked the Ekushey Television (ETV) and Csb Multimedia Company Limited (CSB) to refrain from telecasting any provocative news, documentaries, talk shows and discussions against the government. Uttara Model Town or simply Uttara ( bn, উত্তরা) is a suburb of Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. The name derives from the Bengali word ''uttar'' meaning "north". It lies on the road to Gazipur, and adjoins Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Ekushey Television ( bn, একুশে টেলিভিশন; , in reference to 21 February), also known by its acronym ETV, is a Bangladeshi Bengali-language privately owned satellite and cable television channel owned by S. Alam Group of Industries. It is headquartered in Kawran Bazar, Dhaka, and is Bangladesh's first privately owned television channel to broadcast news and current affairs programming. Ekushey Television was launched on 14 April 2000 by A.S. Mahmud, with the "Poribortone Ongikarboddho" (পরিবর্তনে অঙ্গীকারবদ্ধ; ) slogan, which is still used today, as a privately owned nationwide terrestrial television network, the first of its kind in Bangladesh and the region of South Asia in general. The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) ( bn, বাংলাদেশ টেলিযোগাযোগ নিয়ন্ত্রণ কমিশন) is an independent commission founded under the Bangladesh Telecommunication Act, 2001 (Act # 18 of 2001). The BTRC is responsible for regulating all matters related to telecommunications (wire, cellular, satellite and cable) of Bangladesh. The chairman of the commission has the status of a judge of the Bangladesh High Court. Shyam Sunder Sikder is the chairman of the commission. Television Channels In Bangladesh
Around 45 privately owned television channels were permitted by the Government of Bangladesh as of 2019, of which thirty four are currently on air. Five television channels, namely CSB News, Channel 1, Diganta Television, Islamic TV, and Channel 16, have been taken off air.
