Syndactyla
''Syndactyla'' is a genus of foliage-gleaners, birds in the ovenbird family Furnariidae. Taxonomy The genus ''Syndactyla'' was introduced in 1853 by the German naturalist Ludwig Reichenbach to accommodate the buff-browed foliage-gleaner. The name combines the Ancient Greek ''sun'' meaning "together" with ''daktulos'' meaning "toe". Members of this genus are most closely related to the foliage-gleaners in the genus ''Anabacerthia''. A high resolution version of the phylogenetic tree in Figure 1 is available from the first author's websithere The recurvebills, ''S. ucayalae'' and ''S. striata,'' were formerly placed in their own genus ''Simoxenops,'' ''and S. roraimae'' was formerly placed in the genus ''Automolus''. Species The genus contains eight species: * Lineated foliage-gleaner, ''Syndactyla subalaris'' * Guttulate foliage-gleaner, ''Syndactyla guttulata'' * Buff-browed foliage-gleaner, ''Syndactyla rufosuperciliata'' * Rufous-necked foliage-gleaner, ''Syndactyl ...

The planalto foliage-gleaner (''Syndactyla dimidiata''), also known as the russet-mantled foliage-gleaner, is a species of bird in the Furnariinae subfamily of the ovenbird family Furnariidae. It is found in Brazil and Paraguay. Taxonomy and systematics The planalto foliage-gleaner was long placed in genus ''Philydor'' but morphological and vocal data suggested affinities within ''Syndactyla''. Molecular data confirmed this change and revealed that. ''S. dimidiata'' the sister species of ''S. rufosuperciliata''. The Peruvian recurvebill (''Syndactyla ucayalae'') is a Near Threatened species of bird in the Furnariinae subfamily of the ovenbird family Furnariidae. It is found in Bolivia, Brazil and Peru. Taxonomy and systematics The Peruvian recurvebill and its sister species the Bolivian recurvebill (''S. striata'') were previously placed in genus ''Simoxenops''. Their vocalizations and behavior strongly suggested the two species belonged in ''Syndactyla'', and that placement was confirmed by genetic study.Derryberry, E. P., S. Claramunt, G. Derryberry, R. T. Guttulate Foliage-gleaner
The guttulate foliage-gleaner (''Syndactyla guttulata'') is a species of bird in the Furnariinae subfamily of the ovenbird family Furnariidae. It is endemic to Venezuela. Taxonomy and systematics The guttulate foliage-gleaner was originally described as ''Anabazenops guttulatus''. It early acquired the English name "guttulated foliage-gleaner", a name which persisted until it was pointed out that the word ''guttulated'' does not exist in English. "Webster's International indeed states that the English noun ''guttula'' is an obscure word for a drop-shaped spot, and the adjectival form is ''guttulate'', not "guttulated". The guttulate foliage-gleaner has two subspecies, the nominate ''S. g. guttulata'' ( Sclater, PL, 1858) and ''S. g. pallida'' ( Zimmer, JT & Phelps, WH, 1944). Description The guttulate foliage-gleaner is long and weighs . It is a largish furnariid with a more wedge-shaped bill than many others of its genus. The sexes have the same plumage. Adults of ...

Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. It is threatened by habitat loss Habitat destruction (also termed habitat loss and habitat reduction) is the process by which a natural habitat becomes incapable of supporting its native species. Bolivian Recurvebill
The Bolivian recurvebill (''Syndactyla striatus'') is a bird species in the family Furnariidae. It is endemic to Bolivia. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. It is becoming rare due to habitat loss. It was formerly classified as a vulnerable species by the IUCN. But new research has shown it to be not as rare as it was believed. Consequently, it is downlisted to near threatened status in 2008BLI (2008) and least concern in 2012. Automolus
''Automolus'' is a genus of bird in the ovenbird family Furnariidae. Taxonomy The genus ''Automolus'' was introduced in 1853 by the German naturalist Ludwig Reichenbach to accommodate the taxon ''Sphenura sulphurascens'' Lichtenstein, now treated as a subspecies of the white-eyed foliage-gleaner. The name is from the Ancient Greek ''automolos'' meaning "deserter". Species The genus contains 11 species: * Chestnut-crowned foliage-gleaner, ''Automolus rufipileatus'' * Brown-rumped foliage-gleaner, ''Automolus melanopezus'' * Ochre-throated foliage-gleaner, ''Automolus ochrolaemus'' * Fawn-throated foliage-gleaner, ''Automolus cervinigularis'' * Chiriqui foliage-gleaner, ''Automolus exsertus'' – split from buff-throated foliage-gleaner * Eastern woodhaunter, ''Automolus subulatus'' – formerly in ''Hyloctistes'' (previously striped woodhaunter) * Western woodhaunter, ''Automolus virgatus'' – split from eastern woodhaunter * Olive-backed foliage-gleaner, ''Automolus ...

Bird Genera
Birds are a group of warm-blooded vertebrates constituting the class Aves (), characterised by feathers, toothless beaked jaws, the laying of hard-shelled eggs, a high metabolic rate, a four-chambered heart, and a strong yet lightweight skeleton. Birds live worldwide and range in size from the bee hummingbird to the ostrich. There are about ten thousand living species, more than half of which are passerine, or "perching" birds. Birds have whose development varies according to species; the only known groups without wings are the extinct moa and elephant birds. Wings, which are modified forelimbs, gave birds the ability to fly, although further evolution has led to the loss of flight in some birds, including ratites, penguins, and diverse endemic island species. The digestive and respiratory systems of birds are also uniquely adapted for flight. Some bird species of aquatic environments, particularly seabirds and some waterbirds, have further evolved for swimming. Bi ...
