Salthill-Knocknacarra () is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the Salthill and Knocknacarra areas in Galway City, Ireland. The club is a member of the Galway GAA. Salthill-Knocknacarra GAA Club caters for huge numbers of young boys and girls and adults who play Football, Hurling, Ladies Football and Camogie in the parishes of Salthill and Knocknacarra. History The club was founded in 1966 under the banner of Cumann Naomh Ciarán. During the 1980s the Club became a major underage force in Galway football under the guidance of Club greats such as Tony Regan and Liam Sammon. This resulted in over ten championships at both minor and U-21 levels being won. This underage success was then transferred onto the Senior stage in 1990 with the Club winning its first Senior football county title followed by a Connaught Club title. Liam Sammon
Liam Sammon (born 1946 in Galway) is an Irish former Gaelic football manager, coach, writer and former player. He played football with his local clubs Father Griffins and Salthill-Knocknacarra and was a member of the senior Galway county team from 1966 until 1979. He won an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship in his first year with the team, 1966. He won All Stars in 1971 and 1973. Sammon later served as manager of the senior Galway inter-county team from 2007 until 2009. Playing career Minor and under-21 Sammon first came to prominence on the inter-county scene as a member of the Galway minor football team in the early 1960s. He later progressed to the Galway under-21 football team. In 1965, he lined out in the provincial under-21 decider with Mayo providing the opposition. Tadhg Haran
Tadhg Haran (born 6 September 1991) is an Irish hurler who currently plays as a midfielder for Liam Mellows and the Galway senior hurling team. Haran made his first appearance for the senior team during the 2012 championship and immediately became a regular impact sub. Dora Gorman
Dora Gorman (born 18 February 1993) is an Irish physician and Republic of Ireland women's international footballer who plays as a midfielder for Peamount United of the Women's National League (WNL). In 2010, she was captain of the Republic of Ireland U-17 squad who were runners-up in the 2010 UEFA Women's Under-17 Championship and quarter-finalists in the 2010 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup. As well as being a medical doctor, Gorman is an all-round sportswoman. Robert Finnerty
Robert Finnerty (born 1998) is a Gaelic footballer who plays for Salthill-Knocknacarra and at senior level for the Galway county team. Part of the Galway senior panel since 2017, he played for Galway in the 2016 All-Ireland Minor Football Championship final and the 2017 All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championship final. He has played Sigerson Cup football for NUI Galway and is the son of Anthony Finnerty, who played for Mayo. Robert Finnerty made senior championship appearances for Galway in 2019, playing championship before he played in the league. He scored a goal in Pádraic Joyce's first game as manager. Gavin Duffy (sportsman)
Gavin Duffy (born 18 September 1981) is an Irish sportsman. Duffy is a former international rugby union footballer who primarily played at full back. He last played professionally for Irish provincial side Connacht Rugby, in the Pro12, and represented Ireland at full international level. Duffy also plays Gaelic football, and was previously part of the wider Mayo county team. He had previously represented the county at under-age level. Gary Cox (Gaelic Footballer)
Gary Cox is a Gaelic footballer from County Roscommon, Ireland. He first came to prominence with the Roscommon Junior team that won Connacht and All Ireland titles in 2000 along with future Senior stars like Karol Mannion and Shane Curran. The following year he was part of the Roscommon side that won the Connacht Senior Football Championship. He plays his club football with the St Faithleach's club. Connacht Junior Club Hurling Championship
The Connacht Junior Club Hurling Championship is a hurling competition that comprises the winners of the senior hurling competitions from Sligo and Leitrim along with the Galway champions who receive a bye to the final. The winners of this competition qualify for the All-Ireland Junior Club Hurling Championship. The county champions of Mayo and Roscommon compete in the intermediate grade.
