Pokkinen
Pokkinen is a district of the city centre area of Oulu, Finland. Together with districts of Vaara and Vanhatulli, Pokkinen forms the central business district of Oulu. It is bounded by the estuary of the Oulujoki river to the west, the Koskikeskus and Myllytulli districts to the north, the Vaara district to the east and the Vanhatulli district to the south. Pokkinen is the oldest part of Oulu. Oulu City Hall
Oulu City Hall ( fi, Oulun kaupungintalo) is the seat for the municipal government of the City of Oulu, Finland. It is located in the Pokkinen district of the central Oulu. The neo-renaissance style city hall was designed by a Swedish architect Johan Erik Stenberg as the restaurant and hotel Seurahuone in 1885. The third floor was added and other major changes made in 1920 according to plans of architect Oiva Kallio. Some of the changes were reversed during the renovation in 1978–1982, for example the doors were restored to their original location. The city council has assembled in the city hall since 21 December 1920 and the municipal government since 7 January 1931. Vanhatulli
Vanhatulli is a district of the city centre area of Oulu, Finland. Together with the districts of Pokkinen and Vaara, Vanhatulli forms the central business district of Oulu. It is bounded by the estuary of the Oulujoki river to the west, the Pokkinen and Vaara districts to the north, the Leveri and Hollihaka districts to the south and the railway to the east. Besides commercial area, Vanhatulli also has got residential neighbourhoods like the historic Kuusiluoto neighbourhood by the river Oulujoki and the new urban neighbourhood of Etu-Lyötty along the railway. Oulu Cathedral
Oulu Cathedral ( fi, Oulun tuomiokirkko, sv, Uleåborgs domkyrka) is an Evangelical Lutheran cathedral and the seat of the Diocese of Oulu, located in the centre of Oulu, Finland. The church was built in 1777 as a tribute to the King of Sweden Gustav III and named after his wife as Sofia Magdalena's church. The wooden structures burned in the large fire of the city of Oulu in 1822. The church was built again on top of the old stone walls with famous architect Carl Ludvig Engel as the designer. Market Square, Oulu
The Oulu Market Square is the main market square of the city of Oulu, Finland. The market square is located in the city centre, in the Pokkinen district, on the waterfront of the Oulujoki river. The Rotuaari pedestrian zone starts from the square behind the Toripolliisi Toripolliisi (''The Bobby at the Market Place'' in English) is a bronze sculpture located at the market square in Oulu, Finland. It was made by sculptor Kaarlo Mikkonen in 1987. The sculpture measures 220×150×112 centimetres (86.6×59×44 inc ... statue. Koskikeskus
Koskikeskus (literally ''Rapids Center'' in Finnish) is a neighbourhood in the Tuira area in the city of Oulu, Finland. The neighbourhood is located in the estuary of the river Oulujoki. The Tuira Bridges in Koskikeskus connect the city centre and Tuira neighbourhoods. The first bridges through the delta were built in late 1860s. Koskikeskus is built on the site of the former Merikoski rapids, which were lost when the Merikoski hydroelectric power station was built in the 1940s. The neighbourhood is made up of several islands of which only the artificial island of Toivoniemi is permanently inhabited. Other notable islands in the neighbourhood are Linnansaari, Raatinsaari and Kuusisaari. The ruins of the Oulu Castle are located on the Linnansaari island. Myllytulli
Myllytulli is a district of the city centre area of Oulu, Finland. Myllytulli was mostly industrial area, which was rezoned mostly for residential use in 1984. Some of the old industrial buildings were preserved and renovated as museums such as Oulu Museum of Art, Tietomaa science centre, fire damaged Myllytulli power plant is being renovated as an art gallery.
