Lecco
Lecco (, , ; lmo, label=Lecchese, Lècch ) is a city of 48,131 inhabitants in Lombardy, northern Italy, north of Milan. It lies at the end of the south-eastern branch of Lake Como (the branch is named ''Branch of Lecco'' / ''Ramo di Lecco''). The Bergamo Alps rise to the north and east, cut through by the Valsassina of which Lecco marks the southern end. The lake narrows to form the river Adda, so bridges were built to improve road communications with Como and Milan. There are four bridges crossing the river Adda in Lecco: the Azzone Visconti Bridge (1336–1338), the Kennedy Bridge (1956), the Alessandro Manzoni Bridge (1985), and a railroad bridge. Lecco was also Alpine Town of the Year in 2013. Elevated to province by decree of the President of the Republic of March 6, 1992, Lecco obtained the title of city on June 22, 1848. Acquate
Acquate (in Lecchese dialect ''Quàa'') is a ward of Lecco, Italy, located north-east of the city centre. It is situated at the foot of the hill between the Bione and Caldone creeks. History The village of Acquate, consisting of an urban center and its church, is attested still in 1232 and was part of Lecco within the Duchy of Milan. In Napoleonic era, in 1809, Acquate became a frazione of Lecco, taking again its autonomy with the constitution of the Kingdom of Lombardy–Venetia in 1815. At the proclamation of the Kingdom of Italy in 1861, Acquate had 1,481 inhabitants, and 2,421 in 1921. It was downgraded and attached to Lecco in 1923. In Acquate is born sister Maria Ripamonti. 250px, The Valsassina plateau. Valsassina is a valley in the Alps of Lombardy, northern Italy, within the province of Lecco. It is included between the Grigne range from West, and the Bergamo Prealps which, in a half-circle stretching from North to East, separate it from the valley of the area of Bergamo and the Valtellina. Valsassina also reaches the Lecco's branch of Lake Como at Lecco itself and Bellano. The valley is run by the Pioverna stream, which flows from the Grigne to the Lake Como. It's peculiar because it flows South-to-North. The Cemetery and Chapel of San Giovanni Battista, also known as the ''Cimitero di Laorca'' is a Roman Catholic church and cemetery in the neighborhood of Loarca in the town limits of Lecco, region of Lombardy, Italy. The cemetery is located in a grotto under a stone mountainside. History The site originally housed a series of Via Crucis chapels (1765), resembling those found in the Sacro Monti of Lombardy and Piedmont. An ossuary was added in 1649 to house the remains of those killed by the plague; after the first world war, it became a repository and memorial for those fallen in the conflict. The site was refurbished during the 19th and 20th centuries. The painter Luigi Tagliaferri restored the Via Crucis. In 1985-1989, the painter Paolo Gerosa painted modern images for the chapel refurbished in a Neo-Romanesque style on the prior foundations. Adda River
The Adda (Latin ''Abdua'', or ''Addua''; in Lombard ''Ada'' or, again, ''Adda'' in local dialects where the double consonants are marked) is a river in North Italy, a tributary of the Po. Lecchese is a dialect of Western Lombard language spoken in the city and suburbs of Lecco (Lombardy). Characteristics It has the characteristic, in contrast with the other Comasco-Lecchese dialects, to be influenced by Brianzöö, Valsassinese, Valtellinese and Bergamasque (an Eastern Lombard variety spoken in and around the city of Bergamo).
