Kaechon
Kaech'ŏn or Kaechon ( , ; Hangul: , Hanja: ) is a city in South P'yŏngan province, North Korea. Geography The Myohyangsan, Changansan, Ch'ŏnsŏngsan, and Ch'ŏngryongsan mountain ranges come together in Kaech'ŏn. The highest peak is Paekt'apsan. The most important rivers are the Ch'ŏngch'ŏn River and the Taedong River. The area of the city is 61% forested. Administrative divisions Kaech'ŏn-si is divided into 26 ''tong'' (neighbourhoods) and 11 '' ri'' (villages): Economy Water resources are abundant, and several reservoirs are located in Kaech'ŏn. Agriculture has been extensively developed, including livestock and fruit orchards. Machining and metalworking are the dominant industries, mining has also become more prominent. Kaechon Internment Camp
Kaechon Internment Camp (Hangeul: , also spelled Kae'chŏn or ''Gaecheon'') is a labor camp in North Korea for political prisoners and descendants of alleged criminals. The official name for the camp is Kwan-li-so (Penal-labor colony) No. 14. The camp is commonly known as Camp 14. It is not to be confused with the Kaechon concentration camp (Kyo-hwa-so No. 1), which is located to the northwest. Description The camp was established around 1959 in central North Korea near Kae'chŏn county, South Pyongan Province. It is situated along the middle reaches of the Taedong river, which forms the southern boundary of the camp, and includes the mountains north of the river, including Purok-san. Bukchang, a concentration camp (Kwan-li-so No.18) adjoins the southern banks of the Taedong River. The Manp'o Line is an electrified standard-gauge trunk line of the North Korean State Railway running from Sunch'ŏn on the P'yŏngra Line to Manp'o on the Pukpu Line. Kaechon Line
The Kaech'ŏn Line is an electrified standard-gauge secondary line of the Korean State Railway running from Sinanju on the P'yŏngŭi Line to Kaech'ŏn on the Manp'o Line. Shin Dong-hyuk (born Shin In Geun, 19 November 1982 or 1980) is a North Korean-born human rights activist. He is reputed to be the only known prisoner to have successfully escaped from a "total-control zone" grade internment camp in North Korea. Kunu-dong
Kunu-dong (Kunuri) is a village located in South Pyongan Province, North Korea. A key battle of the Korean War, the Battle of Kunu-ri, took place there in November 1950. Songam Cavern
Songam Cavern is a major tourist venue in North Korea. It consists of 17 well-lit karst caves full of picturesque stone formations including stalactites and stalagmites. The cavern is located in Kaech'ŏn-si, South Pyongan Province.
