International Workers' Unity – Fourth International
International Workers' Unity – Fourth International ( es, Unidad Internacional de los Trabajadores – Cuarta Internacional) is a Trotskyist international organisation. It has members in Latin America, Western Europe and the CIS, including Izquierda Socialista in Argentina, Unidad Socialista de Izquierda in Venezuela, Corrente Socialista dos Trabalhadores in Brazil and Movimiento pelo Socialismo in Portugal. It was formed in 1995 by the merger of the Revolutionary International Current, consisting of a breakaway faction of the International Workers League (Fourth International) (LIT-CI); and the International League for the Reconstruction of the Fourth International. Both the LIT and UIT claim to stand in the political tradition of Nahuel Moreno. Trotskyist
Trotskyism is the political ideology and branch of Marxism developed by Ukrainian-Russian revolutionary Leon Trotsky and some other members of the Left Opposition and Fourth International. Trotsky self-identified as an orthodox Marxist, a revolutionary Marxist, and Bolshevik–Leninist, a follower of Marx, Engels, and 3L: Vladimir Lenin, Karl Liebknecht, and Rosa Luxemburg. He supported founding a vanguard party of the proletariat, proletarian internationalism, and a dictatorship of the proletariat (as opposed to the " dictatorship of the bourgeoisie", which Marxists argue defines capitalism) based on working-class self-emancipation and mass democracy. The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is a regional intergovernmental organization in Eurasia. It was formed following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. It covers an area of and has an estimated population of 239,796,010. The CIS encourages cooperation in economic, political and military affairs and has certain powers relating to the coordination of trade, finance, lawmaking, and security. It has also promoted cooperation on cross-border crime prevention. As the Soviet Union disintegrated, Belarus, Russia and Ukraine signed the Belovezh Accords on 8 December 1991, declaring that the Union had effectively ceased to exist and proclaimed the CIS in its place. International League For The Reconstruction Of The Fourth International
The International League for the Reconstruction of the Fourth International, usually known as the Fourth International, was a Trotskyist political international led by Michel Varga. The group's origins lay in the International Committee of the Fourth International (ICFI). Varga's League of Revolutionary Socialists of Hungary was based in Paris and was close to the Internationalist Communist Organisation (OCI), and in particular Pierre Broué. It joined the ICFI in 1963, but when the OCI left the ICFI in 1971, Varga's group took their side. Although Varga had sided with the OCI in the factional fight, he disagreed with their abandonment of the ICFI. When the OCI held a preconference in 1972 to form the Organising Committee for the Reconstruction of the Fourth International (OCRFI), he spoke against, and was excluded from the new organisation. Nahuel Moreno (real name Hugo Miguel Bressano Capacete; April 24, 1924 – January 25, 1987) was a Trotskyist leader from Argentina. Moreno was active in the Trotskyist movement from 1942 until his death. The Committee for a Workers' International (CWI) was an international association of Trotskyist political parties. Today, two groups claim to be the continuation of the CWI. History Founding The origins of the CWI can be traced to a group of British trotskyists which were expelled from the USFI in 1965, after disagreements regarding the Colonial Revolution, Gurrilerism, Studentism and the post war boom. But it is not till 1974 that they set about building an international. The founding conference of the CWI was held in London on 20 to 21 April 1974 and attended by supporters of what was then called Militant (or the Militant tendency), from 12 countries including Britain, Ireland and Sweden. This is a list of Trotskyist internationals. It includes all of the many political internationals which self-identify as Trotskyist. Of the organizations listed, three claim to be the original Fourth International founded in 1938: the reunified Fourth International and the International Committee of the Fourth International (ICFI). Certain organizations which claim to be Trotskyist make no attempt to claim any relationship to the Fourth International in an organizational sense and argue that it no longer exists.
