Ice Hockey In The United Arab Emirates
Ice hockey is a minor sport that is gaining popularity in United Arab Emirates. The premier ice hockey league in the UAE is the Emirates Ice Hockey League (EHL), which began in 2009. The U.A.E. Ice Hockey Association is one of the few sports associations recognized by the United Arab Emirates government. In 2018, Vladimir Burdun was appointed as the new president of the EHL. His role was to strengthen the UAE ice hockey team and attract more business opportunities. In 2019, Burdun announced the goal of entering a team into the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), which formerly involved teams from Belarus, China, Finland, Latvia, Kazakhstan, and Russia, by 2021. Sergei Valeryevich Mozyakin (russian: Серге́й Вале́рьевич Мозя́кин; born 30 March 1981) is a Russian former professional ice hockey winger who last played for Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). With over 735 points and 162 playoff points in his KHL career, he is both the six-time points leader (2008–09, 2009–10, 2012–13, 2013–14, 2015–16, 2016–17), and the all-time highest scorer in both the regular season and the playoffs in the KHL. Pavel Valerievich Datsyuk (, ; born 20 July 1978) is a Russian former professional ice hockey player. Datsyuk was nicknamed the "Magic Man" honoring his incredible stickhandling and creativity with the puck. From 2001 to 2016, he played for the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL). In 2017, Datsyuk was named one of the " 100 Greatest NHL Players" in history, and was the only active player outside of the NHL at the time of announcement. Datsyuk won the Stanley Cup in 2002 and 2008 with the Red Wings, and the Gagarin Cup in 2017 with SKA Saint Petersburg. The Vegas Golden Knights are a professional ice hockey team based in the Las Vegas metropolitan area. The UAE national ice hockey team ( ar, منتخب الإمارات العربية المتحدة لهوكي الجليد) is the national men's ice hockey team of the United Arab Emirates. It is operated under the UAE Ice Sports Federation and a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).
