Czech Republic In The Eurovision Song Contest 2019
The Czech Republic participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 with the song "Friend of a Friend" written by Jan Steinsdoerfer, Mikołaj Trybulec and Albert Černý. The song was performed by the band Lake Malawi. The Czech broadcaster Česká televize (ČT) organised the national final ''Eurovision Song CZ 2019'' in order to select the Czech entry for the 2019 contest in Tel Aviv, Israel. Eight entries competed in the national final and "Friend of a Friend" performed by Lake Malawi was announced as the winner on 28 January 2019 following the combination of votes from an eleven-member international jury panel and a public vote. Czech Republic was drawn to compete in the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 14 May 2019. Performing during the show in position 6, "Friend of a Friend" was announced among the top 10 entries of the first semi-final and therefore qualified to compete in the final on 16 May. Lake Malawi (band)
Lake Malawi is a Czech indie pop band from Třinec formed in 2013. The band currently consists of lead vocalist, guitarist and keyboardist Albert Černý, and bassist and keyboardist Jeroným Šubrt. The band was formed by Černý following the breakup of his former band Charlie Straight. Their debut extended play ''We Are Making Love Again'' was released in 2015, followed by their debut studio album ''Surrounded by Light'' in 2017. Mikoláš Josef (; born 4 October 1995), known professionally as Mikolas Josef, is a Czech singer-songwriter and former model. He represented the Czech Republic in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon, Portugal with the song "Lie to Me", and finished in sixth place, the best result for the Czech Republic in Eurovision history. Ukraine In The Eurovision Song Contest 2019
Ukraine originally planned to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 with the song " Siren Song" written by Hanna Korsun and Mikhail Busin. The song was performed by Maruv, which is the artistic name of singer Hanna Korsun. The Ukrainian broadcaster National Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine (UA:PBC) organised a national final in collaboration with commercial broadcaster STB in order to select the Ukrainian entry for the 2019 contest in Tel Aviv, Israel. The national selection consisted of two semi-finals, held on 9 and 16 February 2019, and a final, held on 23 February 2019; eight entries competed in each semi-final with the top three from each semi-final advancing to the final. Boris Carloff (born Milan Havrda; 17 September 1974 in Brno) is a Czech musician, composer and record producer. In 2012 he released the Apollo Award-winning album ''The Escapist,'' followed by Morphosis in 2014. Career Boris Carloff studied classical violin and his first band Palm Beat was formed in 2003. He later played with several other projects and as producer he collaborated with acts including Kryštof and Wohnout. His stage name was inspired by English actor Boris Karloff. Joakim With Steen (born 26 June 1989), better known as Jowst (usually stylised JOWST), is a Norwegian music producer and songwriter. He represented Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with the song "Grab the Moment", along with vocalist Aleksander Walmann finishing in 10th place.
