Czech Davis Cup Team
The Czech Republic men's national tennis team represents the Czech Republic in the Davis Cup and is governed by the Czech Tennis Federation. The Czech team was started in 1993, following the break-up of Czechoslovakia. The team competed in the Europe/Africa Zone I in 2019. It has played in the World Group in all but one year since it was created in 1981, sharing this record with the United States. Jaroslav Navrátil (tennis)
Jaroslav Navrátil (born 24 July 1957) is a Czech former professional tennis player. Navrátil had most of his tennis success while playing doubles. During his career, he achieved a career-high doubles ranking of World No. 31 in 1987. He was the captain of the Davis Cup team for the Czech Republic from 2006-2018, including for their 2012 win. Jiří Lehečka (born 8 November 2001) is a Czech tennis player. Lehečka has a career high ATP singles ranking of World No. 59 achieved on 8 August 2022. He also has a career high ATP doubles ranking of World No. 214 achieved on 7 March 2022. Lehečka has a career high ITF junior combined ranking of No. 10 achieved on 11 March 2019. He is currently the No. 1 Czech tennis player in singles. Early life Jiří Lehečka is the son of two athletes. His father was a swimmer, and his mother was a track and field star. He has long enjoyed skiing, cycling and swimming and remembers first touching a tennis racquet at three. 1981 Davis Cup World Group
The World Group was the highest level of Davis Cup competition in 1981. It was the first edition of the newly-formed 16-team World Group and a move to a tiered system including promotion and relegation. The original 16 teams to compete were chosen through the previous year's results, with teams that reached the 1980 Zonal semifinals chosen to compete in the inaugural bracket. The first-round losers would play in the Davis Cup World Group Relegation Play-offs, with the four losers relegated to their respective Zonal competitions the following year and replaced by the four winners of the current year's Zonal competitions. The 1981 Davis Cup (also known as the 1981 Davis Cup by NEC for sponsorship purposes) was the 70th edition of the Davis Cup, the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. 53 teams would enter the competition, 16 in the World Group, 23 in the Europe Zone, 8 in the Americas Zone, and 6 in the Eastern Zone. The Germany Davis Cup team represents Germany in Davis Cup tennis competition and are governed by the Deutscher Tennis Bund. As East Germany never participated in the Davis Cup, and the Deutscher Tennisbund remained the same organization throughout the century, the West German Davis Cup team is included in this article. Ladislav Hecht
Ladislav Hecht (; hu, Hecht László ; August 31, 1909 – May 27, 2004) was a Jewish Czechoslovak-American professional tennis player. He won the gold medal in singles at the 1932 Maccabiah Games in Mandatory Palestine, and won the 1934 Hungarian International Tennis Singles Championship. In 1937 he reached the semifinals of the doubles at Wimbledon with Roderich Menzel, and the following year he reached the 1938 Wimbledon quarterfinals in singles. Despite being Jewish, he was invited to the Germany Davis Cup team in 1938 by an aide to Adolph Hitler who was not aware that he was Jewish, but chose not to accept the invitation. He represented Czechoslovakia in the Davis Cup during the 1930s, was captain of the team, and had a record of 18-19. In the 1930s, he was ranked world #6 in singles.
