Czarni Słupsk, more commonly known as Icon Sea Czarni Słupsk because of sponsorship reasons, is a Polish basketball team, based in Słupsk, playing in Polish Basketball League (PLK). The home arena of the club was Hala Gryfia. History In July 1945, the original Czarni Słupsk team was formed, by railway workers who moved from Kraków to Słupsk after World War II. The club was originated as an association football club, but in 1989 the basketball section was founded. In the 1998–99 season, the team promoted to the Polish Basketball League (PLK). In the 2005–06 season, the first club honour was one: the bronze medal. In the 2010s Czarni Słupsk was a steady competitor in the PLK, with several Playoff appearances. On 31 January 2018, Czarni Słupsk retired from the league and was dissolved due to financial collapse. Polish Basketball League
Polska Liga Koszykówki (PLK) (English language, English: Polish Basketball League) is a professional men's club basketball list of basketball leagues, league in Poland. It constitutes the first and highest-tier level of the Polish basketball league system, Polish league pyramid. The winning team of the final round are crowned the Polish Champions of that season. It began in 1947–48, with the name of I Liga, and was originally organized by the Polish Basketball Federation. The league changed to its current form, beginning with the 1997–98 season, after the Polska Liga Koszykówki SA, PLK SA (the Polish Basketball League Joint-stock company) took control over the league (the PLK SA was created in 1995). In 2000–01 season the league turned professional. The PLK, which is played under FIBA Europe, FIBA rules, currently consists of 16 teams. Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, most commonly of five players each, opposing one another on a rectangular court, compete with the primary objective of shooting a basketball (approximately in diameter) through the defender's hoop (a basket in diameter mounted high to a backboard at each end of the court, while preventing the opposing team from shooting through their own hoop. 2024 Polish Basketball Cup
The 2024 Bank Pekao Polish Basketball Cup ( pl, Puchar Polski 2024) is the 60th edition of Poland's national cup competition for men basketball teams. It is managed by the Polish Basketball League (PLK) and will be held in Sosnowiec, in the Arena Sosnowiec. Qualified teams The eight participants qualified for the tournament after the first half of the 2023–24 PLK season. The 2022–23 FIBA Europe Cup is the eighth season of the FIBA Europe Cup, the second-level European professional club basketball competition organised FIBA. The regular season began on 12 October 2022. 2016–17 PLK Season
The 2016–17 Polish Basketball League was the 83rd season of the highest professional basketball tier in Poland and the 21st since the foundation of the Polish Basketball League. Teams As finishing in one of the two last positions during the two previous seasons, Siarka Tarnobrzeg lost its right to participate in the PLK. However, the club was invited to join the league. As champion of the previous I Liga, Miasto Szkła Krosno was promoted. After the ejection of Śląsk Wrocław, the league was played by 17 teams. The intention of PLK is to reduce the number of clubs in the PLK to 16 and to eliminate contracts by introducing regular promotions and relegations. For this season, three teams will be relegated to the I Liga.
