Cyprus In The Eurovision Song Contest 1992
Cyprus entered the Eurovision Song Contest 1992 with "Teriazoume" by Evridiki, after she won the Cypriot national final. National final The Cypriot broadcaster, CyBC, held a national final to select the Cypriot entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 1992, held in Malmö, Sweden. The contest was held on 13 March at the International Conference Centre in Nicosia, hosted by Eirini Charalambidou. The winner selected from the eight songs that competed was chosen through the votes of a 24-person jury. The winner was Evridiki with the song "Teriazoume", composed by George Theofanous and Leonidas Malenis. At Eurovision Evridiki performed 9th on the night of the contest, following Portugal and preceding Malta. "Teriazoume" received 57 points, placing 11th of 23 countries competing. Evridiki Theokleous ( el, Ευρυδίκη Θεοκλέους, ; born 25 February 1968), known professionally as simply Evridiki, is a Greek-Cypriot rock, pop, and electropop singer. She is best known in Europe for representing her home country, Cyprus, in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1992, 1994 and 2007 with the songs ''Teriazoume'', ''Eimai Anthropos Ki Ego'' and ''Comme Ci, Comme Ça'', respectively. George Theofanous
Giorgos (George) Theofanous (, ) (born in Larnaca, Cyprus on 9 January 1968) is a Greek Cypriot composer and producer. He has sold more than two million records and written more than 500 songs in the 1990s and 2000s. Recording artists for whom he has written and produced for include Nana Mouskouri, George Dalaras. His work has received a total of nine Arion Awards, which was an award show by IFPI Greece. He served as a judge on five seasons of the Greek edition of The X Factor. He studied guitar, piano, and music theory at the national conservatory of Greece. He continued his studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA, majoring in arrangement. Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation
Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation ( gr, Ραδιοφωνικό Ίδρυμα Κύπρου , tr, Kıbrıs Radyo Yayın Kurumu), or CyBC (ΡΙΚ, KRYK), is Cyprus' public broadcasting service. It transmits island-wide on four radio and two domestic television channels, and uses one satellite channel for the Cypriot diaspora. It also transmits on a separate high definition channel. CyBC is a nonprofit organization, using its entire income for its mission to provide objective information news, culture and entertainment to the people of Cyprus. CyBC was partially funded by a tax on electric bills, a practice which ended on 1 July 2000; CyBC is currently funded by the state budget. Leonidas I (; grc-gre, Λεωνίδας; died 19 September 480 BC) was a king of the Greek city-state of Sparta, and the 17th of the Agiad line, a dynasty which claimed descent from the mythological demigod Heracles. Leonidas I was son of King Anaxandridas II. He succeeded his half-brother King Cleomenes I to the throne in c. 489 BC. His co-ruler was King Leotychidas. Yugoslavia participated for the last time in the Eurovision Song Contest 1992, held in Malmö, Sweden as the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (consisting of Serbia and Montenegro). The last Yugoslav representative was Extra Nena with the song "Ljubim te pesmama". Before Eurovision Jugovizija 1992 The national final was held on 28 March 1992 in the RTV Belgrade Studios in Belgrade. The show was hosted by Dragana Katić and Radoš Bajić. The Yugoslav national broadcaster, JRT, invited all Yugoslav republics to participate in the national final, however, Slovenian and Croatian broadcasters didn't send any entries as their independence had widespread recognition by January 1992.
