Cyprus sent a team to compete at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. Tennis player Marcos Baghdatis was ruled out of the Beijing Olympics tennis tournament due to a wrist injury which brought the country's team to 17 athletes. Cyprus Olympic Committee
The Cyprus Olympic Committee (COC) ( el, Κυπριακή Ολυμπιακή Επιτροπή) is National Olympic Committee representing the Republic of Cyprus. It is responsible for promoting the Olympic ideals on the island and for ensuring that Cyprus is represented with athletes at the Olympic Games and other multi-sport events. Members of the committee are 31 sports federations, which elect the Executive Council composed of the president and twelve members. The COC organized twice the Games of the Small States of Europe, in 1989 and in 2009. Anna Fitídou
Anna Fitídou (also ''Anna Foitidou'', gr, Άννα Φοιτίδου; born 22 April 1977) is a Cypriot pole vaulter. She set both a national record and a personal best height of 4.30 metres at the second meeting of the IAAF Grand Prix in Thessaloniki, Greece. Fitidou made her official debut for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, where she placed twenty-fourth in the qualifying rounds of the women's pole vault, clearing her height at 4.15 metres. Antonis Nikolaidis
Antonis Nikolaidis ( gr, Αντώνης Νικολαϊδης; born 24 January 1967 in Islington, Greater London, Great Britain) is a British-born Cypriot sport shooter. He captured a total of seven medals (three silver and four bronze) in men's skeet shooting at the ISSF World Cup series, and shared titles with Costas Stratis at the 1998 Commonwealth Games and with Georgios Achilleos in the doubles at the 2002 Commonwealth Games and 2006 Commonwealth Games. Nikolaidis also competed for Cyprus in the same discipline in three editions of the Olympic Games (1992, 1996, and 2004), but he neither reached the final round, nor claimed an Olympic medal. Shooting At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Men's Skeet
The Men's skeet event at the 2008 Olympic Games took place on August 15 and 16 at the Beijing Shooting Range Clay Target Field. The event consisted of two rounds: a qualifier and a final. In the qualifier, each shooter fired 5 sets of 25 shots in the set order of skeet shooting. The top 6 shooters in the qualifying round moved on to the final round. There, they fired one additional round of 25. The total score from all 150 shots was used to determine the final ranking. Vincent Hancock from the United States took a one-hit lead in the qualification round. In the final round, Norway's Tore Brovold, who already shared the world record with Hancock, eliminated this gap by means of a perfect 25, thus also sharing the Olympic final record of 145 hits with him. Haris Papadopoulos ( gr, Χάρης Παπαδόπουλος; born 26 October 1983) is a Cypriot dinghy sailor, who specialized in the Laser and Finn classes. As of October 2012, he is ranked no. 50 in the world for the Finn class by the International Sailing Federation. Pavlos Kontides ( gr, Παύλος Κοντίδης, born 11 February 1990) is a Cypriot sailor. He became the first Cypriot athlete ever to win an Olympic medal for his country, by winning the silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Men's Laser class behind Tom Slingsby. On Tuesday 19 of September 2017, Kontides took the 1st place in 2017 ILCA World Championship in Split, Croatia, becoming a World Champion.
