''Cyclists'' is a 2018 Croatian-French animated short film by Veljko Popović, internationally co-produced and distributed by Bonobostudio. Synopsis The short is described as a comedy set in a small Mediterranean town, having unique aesthetics with vivid colors of summer as inspired by the art of Vasko Lipovac. The idea derived from a notable Cyclus (installation art), installation of 60 cyclists by the artist. The cycling season is nearing its grand finale. During the final race, the two men in the lead are competing for more than the Grand Trophy; they are fighting for the affection of a lady and fulfilment of their erotic fantasies. Bonobostudio
Bonobostudio is an animation production and Distribution (marketing), distribution company headquartered in Zagreb, Croatia. History It was founded by Vanja Andrijević in 2008, who previously worked at the now defunct Kenges Animation/VFX studio as a distributor. The newly founded Bonobostudio continued to develop shorts from the previous company, and released its first film in 2010, Arheo 29 by veteran experimental film-maker and artist Ladislav Knežević. Since then, the company produced a host of award-winning animated shorts such as Imbued Life (Ivana Bošnjak, Thomas Johnson, 2019), Hedgehog's Home (Eva Cvijanović, 2017), Nighthawk (Špela Čadež, 2016), Planemo (Veljko Popović, 2016) and The Sleepwalker (2015 film), Sonámbulo (Theodore Ushev, 2015). Vasko Lipovac
Vasko Lipovac (14 June 1931 – 4 July 2006) was a Yugoslavian and Croatian painter, sculptor, printmaker, designer, illustrator and scenographer and one of the most prominent artists of the region. He is best known for his minimalist figuration and use of intense, unmodulated and often dissonant palette. With the exception of his juvenile period of geometric abstraction, he remained loyal to figuration throughout his whole career. Exceptionally prolific, he worked in various techniques and was equally skilful in using high-polished metal, polychromous wood, enamel, terracotta or polyester to create his sculptures, reliefs and mobiles. ''Cyclus'' is a forty-meter long installation by Croatian artist Vasko Lipovac made for exhibition at Art Pavilion in Zagreb The Art pavillion in Zagreb ( hr, Umjetnički paviljon u Zagrebu) is an art gallery in Zagreb, Croatia. The pavilion is located on the Lenuci Horseshoe, Donji grad(Zagreb), Lower town area of the city, south of Nikola Šubić Zrinski Square, on th ... in 1995. It consists of 66 figures set at one meter high base depicting road bicycle race. Despite the strong stylization of the figures, each cyclist possesses individual features, facial expression and gestures in his preoccupation with the attempt to reach the finish line. The Olympic Museum in Lausanne acquired parts of original installation, “Two motorcyclists” and “Yellow Shirt”, in year 2000 and both have remained on permanent display there ever since. The International Animation Festival Hiroshima is a biennial animation festival hosted in Hiroshima, Japan. The festival was founded in 1985 by ''Association International du Film d'Animation'' or ''ASIFA'' as ''International Animation Festival for the World Peace''. Linoleum, sometimes shortened to lino, is a floor covering made from materials such as solidified linseed oil (linoxyn), pine resin, ground cork dust, sawdust, and mineral fillers such as calcium carbonate, most commonly on a burlap or canvas backing.
