Cy Strange
Cyril Edward "Cy" Strange (June 22, 1914 – February 12, 1987) was a Canadians, Canadian radio broadcaster who was born in Maguire, Ontario. Strange grew up in the farming community of Maguire, where his father had a general store. As a youth, Strange worked in the family store. He had his first experiences with radio singing and playing guitar at a radio station in London, Ontario. Strange started his broadcast career in Toronto where he joined CFRB in 1943 as a journalist. Strange moved to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in 1946. He served in a variety of roles for CBC radio and television, including as a host of ''As It Happens'' from 1971 to 1973, co-host of ''Fresh Air (CBC radio), Fresh Air'' for several decades, and commentary on ''Science_Magazine_(TV_series), Science Magazine''. Maguire, Ontario
Maguire, Ontario was a small agricultural supply store, agricultural supply based community which formerly stood at what is today the intersection of Adare Drive and Maguire Road, in the municipality of North Middlesex, Ontario Canada, in former McGillivray Township, Ontario, McGillivray Township. History Maguire was named for local resident William Maguire, a shoemaker, who had originally immigrated to Canada from Enniskillen Ireland in order to escape the economic conditions brought on by the Great Famine (Ireland), Great Famine of Ireland of 1845–49. Maguire obtained several pieces of property in the vicinity, including one immediately south of the current intersection. A post office was opened in 1882, with Alexander Todd being named as the Postmaster. York Cemetery, Toronto
York Cemetery is a cemetery located in the North York area of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. History The site of York Cemetery was originally a property farmed by Joseph Shepard, who bought the land in 1805. The brick farm house on the property was constructed in 1837 by Joseph's son, Michael. Prior to the 1940s, the land was also used as the short-lived Willowdale Airfield. In 1916, the Toronto General Burying Grounds (now the Mount Pleasant Group of Cemeteries) bought the property but didn't start to convert the 172 acres (70 ha) for cemetery use until 1946, two years before the cemetery officially opened in 1948. The cemetery once fronted on Yonge Street, but in 1966, eighteen and a half acres were sold to the city of North York (now part of Toronto). CFRB (1010 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is owned by Bell Media and carries a News/Talk radio format. Its studios and offices are in the Entertainment District at 250 Richmond Street West. CFRB is a clear channel station powered at 50,000 watts, the maximum permitted in Canada.
