Background The surname Curran derives from a number of unrelated Irish families: * Ó Corráin – at least three distinct families of the name located in what are now counties Tipperary and Waterford; County Galway; County Leitrim; County Kerry and County Fermanagh. Curran Oi (born October 19, 1990) is an American figure skater. He won two ISU Junior Grand Prix silver medals and placed fifth at the 2009 World Junior Championships. He is the founder of ''Stats on Ice'', an online statistics database on figure skaters. Personal life Curran Oi was born on October 19, 1990 in Boston, Massachusetts. He is the brother of Bryna Oi, the 2011 Japanese national ice dancing champion with Taiyo Mizutani. His brother, Aidan Oi, competed in swimming and attended Boston University Academy. Curran Oi began attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2009, graduating in 2013 with a degree in nuclear engineering and physics. He then enrolled as a PhD student in biophysics at Yale University. Career Oi began skating at age six after seeing the sport on television. It was developed by Scottish scientists David Hepworth and Eric Whale, with funding from the Scottish Government. The sources of root vegetable pulp used to manufacture Curran include carrots, sugar beets, and turnips. It is named after ''curran'', the Scottish Gaelic word for "carrot". The material was developed as a potential substitute for carbon fibre and is often used in polymer composites. It has numerous industrial and technological applications, especially for the production of paints and sporting equipment. Alfred and Plantagenet is a Franco-Ontarian township in eastern Ontario, Canada, in the United Counties of Prescott and Russell. Located approximately from downtown Ottawa at the confluence of the Ottawa River and the South Nation River. The township was formed on January 1, 1997, through the amalgamation of Alfred Township, Alfred Village, North Plantagenet Township, and Plantagenet Village. Plantagenet is from the royal house established by King Henry II. Settled in 1811-12. Post office from 1838. Curran () is a small village and townland in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. In the 2001 Census it had a population of 132 people. It is within the Mid-Ulster District Council area, specifically within the Moyola District Electoral Area. The village is in the Mid-Ulster constituency for Westminster and Northern Ireland Assembly elections. Once a thriving market village, Curran has been superseded in recent years by other surrounding towns and villages. Curran ( ) is an unincorporated community in Alcona County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The community is located within Mitchell Township. As an unincorporated community, Curran has no legally defined boundaries or population statistics of its own but does have its own post office with the 48728 ZIP Code. Geography Curran is centered along the concurrency of M-65 and M-72, which is referred to locally as North Curran Road. The community is in Northern Michigan within Mitchell Township in western Alcona County, which is about northwest of the community of Oscoda. Curran sits at an elevation of above sea level. Currans () is a small village in County Kerry, Ireland. It is 8.5 km southwest of Castleisland and 4.7 km west of the neighbouring village of Currow. History The old parish church was abandoned after the Reformation, and fell into ruins. In the Church of Ireland, the parish has long been united to Tralee. In the Roman Catholic Church, Currans parish was united to Tralee by 1703. In 1866 the western part of Currans was included in the new Catholic parish of Baile na hEaglaise.
