Curling At The 2011 Canada Winter Games
Curling at the 2011 Canada Winter Games took place at the Mayflower Curling Club in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The women's competition was held from February 13–18, ending with a win by British Columbia's Corryn Cecile Brown in a 3-1 victory over Alberta's Jocelyn Peterman. Ontario's Laura Horton won the bronze medal after defeating host Nova Scotia's Emily Dwyer. The men's competition, held from February 21–26, ended with a close 6-5 win by Ontario's Ben Bevan over Saskatchewan's Brady Scharback, while Manitoba's Kyle Doering secured a win over New Brunswick's Scott Babin. Carp is a compact rural community in West Carleton-March Ward in the City of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, located in the northwestern portion of the municipality on the Carp River. Bally Haly Golf & Curling Club ( ), is a semi-private curling club and golf course located in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It is the oldest golf club in Atlantic Canada, having been founded in 1896. In that year, a group of ten prominent Newfoundland gentlemen formed the Newfoundland Golf Club. Andrea Sinclair (born May 14, 1993) is a Canadian curler from Ottawa, Ontario. In 2013, she relocated to Whitehorse, Yukon, and has since returned to Ottawa. She is one of the few players to participate in both the junior and adult national championships in a single year: the 2014 Canadian Junior Curling Championships and the 2014 Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Lauren Horton (born July 21, 1995) is a Canadian curler from Pakenham, Ontario. Youth career Horton's Huntley Curling Club rink won the 2011 provincial bantam championship. This qualified her team to represent Ontario at the 2011 Canada Winter Games, where she would take home the bronze medal. She won the provincial junior mixed championship in 2014, throwing third stones for Ryan McCrady. While attending Carleton University, Horton won the 2014 CIS/CCA Curling Championships playing third for the Carleton Ravens team, skipped by Jamie Sinclair. The team represented Canada at the 2015 Winter Universiade, with Sinclair replaced by Breanne Meakin from the University of Manitoba (Sinclair had committed to curling for the United States at this point). Brittany Tran (born March 8, 1993, in Red Deer, Alberta) is a Canadian curler from Calgary. She currently plays third on Team Kayla Skrlik. Career Juniors As a junior, Tran played third for Team Jocelyn Peterman, playing with her since 2003. They represented Alberta at the 2011 Canada Winter Games, where they won a silver medal. In 2012, the team won the Alberta junior championships and represented Alberta at the 2012 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, which they won. They represented Canada at the 2012 World Junior Curling Championships, losing in a tiebreaker. The next season, the team played in the 2012 Curlers Corner Autumn Gold Curling Classic, their first women's Grand Slam event, where they won just one game.
