Cryptogemma
''Cryptogemma'' is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Turridae, the turrids. Distribution These are deep-sea species with a wide geographic distribution. Species According to Zaccharias ''et al.'' (2020) this genus should only include: * '' Cryptogemma aethiopica'' (Thiele, 1925) * '' Cryptogemma periscelida'' (Dall, 1889) * '' Cryptogemma phymatias'' (Watson, 1886) * '' Cryptogemma powelli'' Zaharias, Kantor, Fedosov, Criscione, Hallan, Kano, Bardin & Puillandre, 2020 * '' Cryptogemma praesignis'' (Smith, 1895) * '' Cryptogemma tessellata'' (Powell, 1964) * '' Cryptogemma timorensis'' (Tesch, 1915) * ''Cryptogemma unilineata'' (Powell, 1964). The others should be excluded from this genus because the lack key characters such as the narrow fusiform shell and the well-marked peripheral anal sinus. They show closer resemblances to other conoidean families (such as Horaiclavidae) than to Turridae. Species within the genus ''Cryptogemma'' include (acco ...

Cryptogemma Phymatias
''Cryptogemma phymatias'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Turridae, the turrids. Description (Original description) The white rather high and narrow shell is thin. It is angulated and tubercled on the angle, spiralled, with a short round base, small snout, and openly constricted suture. Sculpture : Longitudinals—there are only harsh, irregular, unequal lines of growth. Spirals — the shell is rather broadly carinated in the middle of the whorls by three fine threads, which are united and made prominent by a series of narrow elongated tubercles. This is where the apex of the sinus occurs. The whole base and snout are scored with feeble threads, one of which, about half-way down the base, is a little more prominent than the rest. The shoulder of the shell above the keel has also some spiral threads, of which the one nearest the suture is also studded with small tubercles. The colour of the shell is greyish yellow. The spire is high and ...

Cryptogemma Praesignis
''Cryptogemma praesignis'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Turridae, the turrids.MolluscaBase eds. (2020). MolluscaBase. Cryptogemma praesignis (E. A. Smith, 1895). Accessed through: World Register of Marine Species at: http://www.marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=taxdetails&id=1425469 on 2020-03-25 Description The length of the shell attains 42 mm, its diameter 15 mm. (Original description by E.A. Smith) The prominent row of tubercles around the middle of the whorls, the keel beneath the suture, and the broad sinus in the outer lip are the principal features of this species. The apex of the spire being broken away makes it impossible to state with certainty the exact number of whorls, but they would probably amount to eleven or twelve. The entire surface exhibits fine flexuous lines of growth. (Original description by W.H. Dall) The solid shell contains six or more whorls (all the specimens are decollate). It is white, with an ashy p ...

Cryptogemma Quentinensis
''Cryptogemma quentinensis'' is a species of sea snail in the family Turridae. Description The length of the shell attains 12 mm, its diameter 5 mm. (Original description) The small, solid shell is white under an olivaceous periostracum. It has five (decollate) whorls. The suture is distinct, bordered by a rounded ridge on each side. The surface is dull. The spiral sculpture consists of a prominent nodulous peripheral ridge which is the anal fasciole, with two smaller ridges in front of it with wider interspaces. In front of the first of these the suture is laid. The space between this and the second is more or less channeled, but these two ridges are not nodulous. In front of these four or five obscure threads appear on the siphonal canal The siphonal canal is an anatomical feature of the shells of certain groups of sea snails within the clade Neogastropoda. Some sea marine gastropods have a soft tubular anterior extension of the mantle called a siphon through which ...

Cryptogemma Polystephanus
''Cryptogemma polystephanus'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Turridae, the turrids. Description The length of the shell attains 25 mm. (Original description) The shell of moderate size contains six or more whorls. The protoconch is eroded. The shell is white, with a cream-colored periostracum. The spiral sculpture consists numerous fine, subequal, flattisb threads with narrower interspaces, which cover the whole shell. To these are added a thickened ridge which borders the anterior margin of the suture, and on the spire a peripheral nodose keel, which is less marked on the body whorl, where it forms the shoulder.oO the penultimate whorl there are twenty of these nodules. Other axial sculpture is furnished by line, short, sharp elevated wrinkles which cross retractively the ridge adjacent to the suture, like the "gathers" of a skirt, and become obsolete on the fasciole. There are twenty-eight of these wrinkles on the margin of the penultimate ...

''Cryptogemma chrysothemis'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Turridae, the turrids. Description The length of the (eroded) shell attains 16.5 mm, its diameter 7.5 mm. (Original description) The short-fusiform shell is white, with a pale olive periostracum. The tip is eroded. The shell contains six or more subsequent whorls. The suture is distinct. The anal sulcus is shallow and somewhat removed from the suture. The fascicle is narrow and depressed. The spiral sculpture consists of a low blunt peripheral keel, somewhat undulated on the earlier whorls with occasional traces of minor spiral threads. The entire surface is more or less obliquely granulose or minutely vermiculate. The axial sculpture consists only of feeble incremental lines .The outer lip is thin, sharp and produced. The inner lip is erased. The columella is short and obliquely attenuated in front. The siphonal canal is short, wide and not recurved. The axis is not pervious ...

Description The length of three whorls attains 8 mm ; of the body whorl, 6 mm; of the aperture, 4 mm; maximum diameter 5 mm. (Original description) The small, solid, chalky shell has an olivaceous pcriostracum. It is decollate with about 4½ remaining whorls. The suture is obscure, with a narrow slightly elevated band in front of it, and on the body whorl a gradually developing similar band behind it. In front of the first band is a depression with two or three incised spiral lines, followed by a strong nodulous keel corresponding to the anal fasciole, in front of which again are (on the spire one, on the last whorl four) strong, simple, distant, spiral threads, of which the second is strongest and followed by the widest interval.
