Crupet is a village of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Assesse, located in the province of Namur, Belgium. Until 1977, it was itself a municipality. It is a member of the organisation ''Les Plus Beaux Villages de Wallonie ''Les Plus Beaux Villages de Wallonie'' ( French; in English: "The Most Beautiful Villages of Wallonia") is a non-profit organisation formed in 1994 to promote, protect and develop a number of villages in Wallonia, Belgium. The grotto was designed by the local curate Gerard and inaugurated on 12 July 1903. It features 22 religious-themed statues. Many of them depict scenes from the life of St Anthony of Padua. Assesse
Assesse () is a municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Namur, Belgium. On 1 January 2006, Assesse had a total population of 6,252. The total area is 78.16 km² which gives a population density of 80 inhabitants per km². The municipality consists of the following districts: Assesse, Courrière, Crupet, Florée, Maillen, Sart-Bernard, and Sorinne-la-Longue. The village of Crupet is noted for its grotto dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua, the Crupet Castle, a moated medieval ''donjon'', and its windmills. Anthony of Padua ( it, Antonio di Padova) or Anthony of Lisbon ( pt, António/Antônio de Lisboa; born Fernando Martins de Bulhões; 15 August 1195 – 13 June 1231) was a Portuguese people, Portuguese Catholic Church, Catholic priesthood (Catholic Church), priest and friar of the Franciscan Order.
