Crowle railway station serves the town of Crowle in North Lincolnshire, England. Most services are provided by Northern Trains, who operate the station. Occasional services by TransPennine Express also call at this station. The station has very limited facilities. There is a shelter on each platform, but no other permanent buildings. A public telephone is provided on platform 1 along with timetable posters to offer train running information. Platform 2 is accessible only by a barrow crossing at the west end of the station, but step-free access is available from the main entrance onto platform 1. The disused signal box has now been knocked down and levelled off. Crowle, North Lincolnshire
Crowle is a market town in the civil parish of Crowle and Ealand, on the Isle of Axholme in North Lincolnshire, England. The civil parish had a population at the 2011 census of 4,828. The town lies on the Stainforth and Keadby Canal. Notable buildings in the town include the parish church, in which can be seen the Crowle Stone runic cross shaft, and the Gothic revival market hall. History Crowle is situated on one of a series of hills which form the Isle of Axholme, left exposed when the area emerged from the Glacial Lake Humber after the last Ice Age, and is separated from the main raised area to the south by a low-lying strip of land. South Humberside Main Line
The South Humberside Main Line runs from Doncaster on the East Coast Main Line to Thorne where it diverges from the Sheffield to Hull Line. It then runs eastwards to Scunthorpe and the Humber ports of Immingham and Grimsby, with the coastal resort of Cleethorpes as terminus. Route From Doncaster the line forms a joint route with the Sheffield–Hull line to Hatfield, passing Hatfield Colliery where the lines diverge at Thorne Junction. South Yorkshire Railway
The South Yorkshire Railway was a railway company with lines in the West Riding of Yorkshire, England. Initially promoted as the South Yorkshire Coal Railway in 1845, the railway was enabled by an act of 1847 as the South Yorkshire Doncaster and Goole Railway Company which incorporated into it the permitted line of the Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Wakefield, Huddersfield and Goole Railway south of Barnsley, the River Dun Navigation, and Dearne and Dove Canals; and had permission for a line from Swinton to Doncaster and other branches. Keadby Railway Station
The original Keadby railway station was the easternmost terminus of the South Yorkshire Railway. The railway, which was extended from Thorne and opened in September 1859 was built without an Act of Parliament, as the railway company owned the canal alongside which they built the line. The station and other railway associated facilities were situated on the west bank of the River Trent to the north of the point where the Stainforth and Keadby Canal passed through a lock to access the river. On 1 May 1866, the first Keadby Bridge and the associated diversionary route were brought into use for goods trains; passenger trains started using the new route on 1 October. Hatfield Colliery Landslip
Hatfield Colliery, also known as Hatfield Main Colliery, was a colliery in the South Yorkshire Coalfield, mining the High Hazel coal seam. The colliery was around northwest of Hatfield, South Yorkshire, adjacent north of the railway line from Doncaster to Scunthorpe (former South Yorkshire Railway, or ''Barnsley to Barnetby Line'') northeast of Hatfield and Stainforth railway station.
