Charles Miller Croswell (October 31, 1825 – December 13, 1886) was the 17th governor of Michigan from 1877 to 1881. Early life in New York Croswell was born in Newburgh, New York, the only son of John and Sallie (née Hicks) Croswell. His father, who was of Scots-Irish extraction, was a paper maker, and carried on business in New York City. His ancestors on his mother's side were of Knickerbocker descent. Some members of the Croswell family were connected with notable events in New York and Connecticut, including Harry Croswell, a pro-Federalist newspaper editor, convicted of libel against President Thomas Jefferson in a landmark case in New York.

Edwin Croswell (May 29, 1797 in Catskill, New York – June 13, 1871 in Princeton, New Jersey), was an American journalist and politician. Croswell's father and uncle were both influential editors and journalists in the early 19th century. Edwin expanded the family's influence on American journalism. Early life In 1800, while he lived in the Hudson River town of Catskill, Croswell's father, Mackay Croswell, started a newspaper called the ''Western Constellation''. When it closed in 1804, Mackay Croswell started the ''Catskill Recorder'', in which he was later joined by his brother Harry Croswell. Harry had been named in a libel lawsuit, People vs Croswell, over an article about President Thomas Jefferson that had appeared in ''The Wasp'', a satiric newspaper that had been published for a few years in Hudson, New York. Harry Croswell
Harry Croswell (June 16, 1778 – March 13, 1858) was a crusading political journalist, a publisher, author, and an Episcopal Church clergyman. Though largely self-educated, he received an honorary degree of A. M. from Yale College in 1817, an honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Trinity College, Hartford, Connecticut in 1831 – an institution he co-founded – established the first public lectures in New Haven, and founded an evening school for the education of adult African-Americans in the city. He was a key figure in first amendment battles over freedom of the press and religious freedom. After abandoning politics for religion, he became the much respected Rector of Trinity Church on the Green in New Haven, Connecticut, for forty-three years, growing his church and establishing seven new churches within the original limits of his parish. Ken Croswell is an American astronomer and author. His first degree, from Washington University in St. Louis, mixed science and wider interests, majoring in physics and minoring in English literature. He also got a PhD in astronomy from Harvard University for studying the Milky Way's halo. He is primarily known as a writer on astronomy and space topics. He has written regularly the ''New Scientist'', ''New York Times'' and various magazines in the popular science press. Mary Ann Croswell
Mary Ann Croswell (died 1830) was an English silversmith. Croswell was the widow of smallworker Henry Croswell I, and registered her first mark on 21 May 1805, following with a second on 29 August 1816. A smallworker like her husband, she gave an address of 31 Monkwell Street in London. In October 1819 her son Henry Croswell became her apprentice. She may have been active as late as 1830; her will, in which the business was left to her son, was proved on 29 January that year. Other apprentices besides her son included Joseph Price and John Goodluck.
