Cross Creek Mall is a regional shopping mall located in Fayetteville, North Carolina, on the 401 Bypass between Morganton Road and the All-American Freeway. The mall contains over 150 stores and covers over . of retail space. Its anchors include Belk, Macy's, and J. C. Penney. The mall is owned by CBL & Associates Properties. History The mall's land was bought in 1970 by Henry Faison, a Charlotte-based developer. The All American Freeway was planned at the time, but the area was predominantly farmland. Construction of the freeway began in May 1974, nine months before the mall opened on February 26, 1975. Hecht's, also known as Hecht Brothers, Hecht Bros. and the Hecht Company, was a large chain of department stores that operated mainly in the mid-Atlantic and southern region of the United States. The firm originated in Baltimore, Maryland. By 2005, Hecht's had some 81 stores in 19 markets in Maryland, the District of Columbia, Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Thalhimers was a department store in the Southern United States. Based in Richmond, Virginia, the venerable chain at its peak operated dozens of stores in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and one store in Memphis, Tennessee. Thalhimer's traditions were most notable during the holiday season with visits from the sticker-distributing Snow Bear and, in later years, the arrival of Lego Land at the downtown Richmond store. Miller & Rhoads was a Virginia-based department store chain. Throughout its 105-year lifespan, the store played an active role in the Richmond, Virginia community, along with its friendly cross-street rival Thalhimers. The Richmond flagship location was known for its "SantaLand" upstairs attraction, which has since become an attraction at the Children’s Museum of Richmond. All American Freeway
The All American Freeway is a highway in the U.S. state of North Carolina connecting I-295 and the western suburbs of Fayetteville to Fort Bragg. The majority of its length is a controlled-access freeway, while the northernmost of the road is a limited-access divided highway. Inside Fort Bragg it is named the All American Parkway. The road parallels NC 24/ NC 87 (Bragg Boulevard) for much of its length outside of Fort Bragg.
