Croatia In The Eurovision Song Contest 2008
Croatia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 with the song "Romanca" written by Miran Hadži Veljković. The song was performed by the band Kraljevi ulice and 75 Cents. The Croatian broadcaster Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT) organised the national final ''Dora 2008'' to select the Croatian entry for the 2008 contest in Belgrade, Serbia. A total of twenty-four entries competed in the national final which consisted of two shows: a semi-final and a final. In the semi-final on 22 February 2008, six entries qualified to compete in the final on 23 February 2008 alongside ten pre-qualified songs. In the final, "Romanca" performed by Kraljevi ulice and 75 Cents was selected as the winner following the combination of votes from a five-member jury panel and a public televote. Croatia was drawn to compete in the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 22 May 2008. Kraljevi Ulice
Kraljevi ulice is a Croatian band founded by Miran Hadži Veljković and Zlatko Petrović Pajo. The band's name translates as "Kings of the Street". They were chosen to represent Croatia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 in Belgrade, Serbia. They sang " Romanca" alongside 75 Cents, and came in 21st. 75 Cents was the stage name of Croatian singer Ladislav Demeterffy a.k.a. Laci (29 January 1933 – 19 November 2010) who performed with Kraljevi ulice in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008. He was dubbed "75 Cents", a reference to his age at the time (75). , he was the oldest known participant in the history of the contest, but had this record beaten in May 2012, when Natalya Pugacheva (late October 1935 – 2019) represented Russia as part of the group Buranovskiye Babushki. Croatian Radio ( hr, Hrvatski radio) is the official broadcasting service of Croatia. Founded on May 15, 1926 as ''Zagreb Radio'', it's the first radio station in all of Southeast Europe. Giuliano Đanić
Giuliano Đanić (born 14 May 1973), known professionally as Giuliano, is a Croatian pop singer. Music career In mid 1988, Giuliano, along with Siniša Vuco, formed the rock band Kleopatra. The band released three singles "Odlazim", "Hladna noć", and "Svi u jedan glas". The band broke up in late 1989. After the break up of Kleopatra, Đanić, along with Zlatko Brodarić, formed the band Apokalipsa. The band's debut album ''Ljubav za ljubav, bol za bol'' was released in 1991. Giuliano has participated seven times in HRT Dora, Croatia's annual music competition and national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. Dino Dvornik (; 20 August 1964 – 7 September 2008) was a Croatian singer-songwriter, music producer, actor and reality television star known as "the Croatian king of funk". Biography Early life A son of renowned actor Boris Dvornik and mother Diana Dvornik (née Tomić), Dino was born in Split, at that time within Yugoslav republic of Croatia. Antonija Šola (; born 5 June 1979) is a Croatian musician, singer-songwriter, lyricist, actress and music producer. She is known for playing a main role of " Tina Bauer-Fijan" in first Croatian soap opera Zabranjena ljubav (2004-2008). Alija "Alen" Islamović (; born 17 August 1957) is a Bosnian rock vocalist. He is best known as the lead singer of Bosnian and Yugoslav rock bands Divlje jagode from 1979 to 1986 and Bijelo Dugme from 1986 to 1989. Riva was a Croatian pop band formed in Zadar in 1986. After forming in 1986, the band appeared on Zagrebfest 1988, Performing with the song “Zadnja Suza” (“Last Tear in Croatian). Yugoslavia was present at the Eurovision Song Contest 1989, held in Lausanne, Switzerland, and won the competition for the first time. Before Eurovision Jugovizija 1989 The Yugoslav national final to select their entry, ''Jugovizija 1989'', was held on 4 March 1989 at the Grand Hall of the Serbian National Theatre in Novi Sad, and was hosted by Dina Čolić and Boško Negovanović. Emilija Kokić (born 10 May 1968) is a Croatian singer. She was the lead singer of the Croatian pop band Riva, which won the Eurovision Song Contest 1989 for Yugoslavia, with the song '' Rock Me'', just four days before her 21st Birthday. Tamara Obrovac
Tamara Obrovac (born 1962 in Pula), Croatian singer, composer, songwriter and flutist is one of the most impressive artists on the Croatian music scene, her main expression is ethnically inspired contemporary jazz influenced by the particular musical and dialect traditions of her homeland, the Croatian peninsula of Istria. Rajko Dujmić
Rajko Dujmić (7 August 1954 – 4 August 2020) was a Croatian songwriter, composer and music producer best known as a member of the pop group Novi fosili. He composed the winner entry of Eurovision Song Contest 1989, " Rock me", along with Stevo Cvikić. They also composed the two previous Yugoslavian entries, "Ja sam za ples", sung by Novi fosili, and "Mangup", sung by Srebrna Krila. Miroslav Škoro
Miroslav Škoro (; born 29 July 1962) is a Croatian musician, television host and politician. He is the founder and the first president of the conservative Homeland Movement party, which he established in February 2020 and led until July 2021. As a musician, Škoro is best known for using the traditional Slavonian tamburica instrument in most of his compositions.
