Cricket in Norway Norway is one of cricket's most northern stations however the game has a solid and developing situation in the country, but most players of the sport are from or descended from South Asia. The Norwegian Cricket Board became an affiliate member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2000, and the Norway national cricket team played its first international match later that year. Most of the side's matches have been against members of the European Cricket Council (ECC), although in more recent years Norway has fielded sides in the lower divisions of the World Cricket League (WCL). The International Cricket Council (ICC) is the world governing body of cricket. World Cricket League
The ICC World Cricket League (WCL) was a series of international one-day cricket tournaments for national teams without Test status (i.e., teams of Associate status) administered by the International Cricket Council. All Associate Members of the ICC were eligible to compete in the league system, which featured a promotion and relegation structure between divisions. The league system had two main aims: to provide a qualification system for the Cricket World Cup that could be accessed by all Associate Members and as an opportunity for these sides to play international one-day matches against teams of similar standards. The league began in 2007, where teams were allocated into divisions based on their performance in the qualification tournaments for the 2007 World Cup; the six initial teams in Division One were the teams that had qualified for the 2007 World Cup. Muhammad Haroon
Muhammad Haroon (born 8 January 1968) is a former Pakistani cricketer who is the current coach of the Norwegian national side. A right-handed leg spinner and competent middle-to-lower-order batsman, his playing career included first-class matches for Lahore Division (from 1999 to 2000) and for Sheikhupura (from 2000 to 2002). Holding a level-4 ECB coaching qualification, Haroon was appointed coach of Norway in early 2014, and has since coached the team at several international tournaments. Buster Nupen
Eiulf Peter "Buster" Nupen (1 January 1902 – 29 January 1977) was a cricketer who played in 17 Test matches for South Africa between 1921–22 and 1935–36. He was born in Norway, lost an eye in a childhood accident, and was shot through both knees during the Rand Rebellion when he was 20. A deadly force for Transvaal against lesser batsmen on matting wickets during the late 1920s – by which time his bowling on these wickets had been developed into a fine art – in 1930–31 Nupen was, owing to the absence of South Africa's former captain Nummy Deane due to poor form, chosen to captain the Test team against England. He did so with considerable skill and accomplished the best bowling of his Test career.
