Cricket Kenya is the official ICC recognised organisation chosen to represent Kenya in terms of cricket issues. They are in charge of overseeing the Kenyan Cricket Team. Cricket Kenya organizes two six team regional tournaments in the T20 and 50 Over formats of the game to replace the defunct Sahara Elite League. These are the East Africa Cup and Premier League. Cricket Kenya organizes the Kenya national cricket team and conducts the international matches with the team. Structure Cricket Kenya consists of a national board consisting of a chairperson, vice chairperson, treasurer, secretary and directors selected from its affiliate provincial associations. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Rift Valley Cricket Association
In geology, a rift is a linear zone where the lithosphere is being pulled apart and is an example of extensional tectonics. Peter Chingoka
Peter Chingoka (2 March 1954 – 22 August 2019) was a Zimbabwean cricket administrator. Career His father, Douglas, was a sub-inspector in the Rhodesian police force—the British South Africa Police—and later a deputy commissioner in the Zimbabwe Republic Police from 1980. As an all-rounder in 1970s Rhodesia, Chingoka was the first Black Rhodesian cricketer to play at a high level, appearing in List A games for the South Africa African XI, which he captained in two matches in the Gillette Cup competition in 1975-76 and 1976-77. His team lost both matches by large margins. After a time in club cricket, Chingoka moved into administration and in 1990 became Vice-President of the Zimbabwe Cricket Union (now renamed Zimbabwe Cricket); he was promoted to the position of President two years later. Percy Sonn
Percival Henry Frederick Sonn (25 September 1949 - 27 May 2007) was a South African lawyer and cricket administrator. Sonn became the sixth president of the International Cricket Council, the most senior role at cricket's world governing body, in July 2006. He was the first ICC president from Africa, serving until his early death. Early life Sonn was born in Oudtshoorn, 350 Km east of Cape Town in South Africa, one of seven brothers. He was educated at Belgravia Senior Secondary School, and read law at the University of the Western Cape. He became an attorney and advocate. The politics of Kenya take place in a framework of a presidential representative democratic republic, whereby the President of Kenya is both head of state and head of government, and of a multi-party system in accordance with a new constitution passed in 2010. Executive power is exercised by the executive branch of government, headed bthe President who chairs the cabinet, that is composed of people chosen from outside parliament. Legislative power is vested exclusively in Parliament. The judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature. The Political terror scale gave the country a rating of a 4 meaning that civil and political rights violations had expanded to large numbers of the population. 2003 Cricket World Cup
The 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup was the eighth Cricket World Cup, organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC). It was co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Kenya from 9 February to 23 March 2003. This edition of the World Cup was the first to be played in Africa. The tournament featured 14 teams, the largest number in the World Cup's history at the time, playing a total of 54 matches. It followed the format introduced in the 1999 Cricket World Cup, with the teams divided into two groups, and the top three in each group qualifying for the Super Sixes stage. 1979 ICC Trophy
The 1979 ICC Trophy was a limited overs cricket tournament held in England between 22 May and 21 June 1979. It was the inaugural ICC Trophy tournament to be staged, with matches between the 15 participating teams played over 60 overs a side and with white clothing and red balls. All matches were played in the Midlands. The tournament served as the Cricket World Cup qualification process – the two finalists, Sri Lanka and Canada, qualified to take part in the 1979 World Cup. The World Cup began on 9 June, just three days after Sri Lanka and Canada qualified for it by winning their ICC Trophy semi-finals. The ICC Trophy final was held on 21 June at Worcestershire's ground at New Road, two days before the World Cup final. Sri Lanka won the first ICC Trophy defeating Canada in the final. East Africa Cricket Team
The East Africa cricket team was a team representing the countries of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and later Zambia. Their first game was against Rhodesia in 1951. East Africa appeared in the 1975 World Cup and the 1979, 1982 and 1986 ICC Trophies. In the last two of these Kenya was represented in its own right, so that East Africa was effectively a Ugandan, Tanzanian and Zambian team. East Africa was an associate member of the ICC from 1966 to 1989, after which its place was taken by East and Central Africa. The 1975 Cricket World Cup (officially called the Prudential Cup '75) was the inaugural men's Cricket World Cup, and the first major tournament in the history of One Day International (ODI) cricket. Organised by the International Cricket Conference (ICC), it took place in England between 7 June and 21 June 1975. The tournament was sponsored by Prudential Assurance Company and had eight participating countries: the six Test-playing teams of the time – Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, the West Indies – and the two leading Associate nations at the time – Sri Lanka and East Africa.
