Crestview (Capital MetroRail Station)
Crestview is a Capital MetroRail commuter rail station and Capital MetroRapid bus rapid transit station in Austin, Texas. It is at the edge of the Crestview neighborhood of North Austin, at the corner of Airport Boulevard and North Lamar Boulevard. The North Lamar Transit Center is north of the station, and the Highland Mall Transit Center (across from the Highland station) is to the southeast. There is no on-site parking at the Crestview station. Riders must park at the North Lamar Transit center and take buses 1 or 801 south to the train. With Project Connect, the Blue and Orange Lines will have a connection to this station. Project Connect (listed as Proposition A on the General Election ballot) is a transit expansion program by the Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Capital Metro) in Austin, Texas, U.S. The program was approved by voters on November 3, 2020, in a local election concurrent with the 2020 presidential election. The project is estimated to cost $7.1 billion and will be funded with public funds, both federally and locally through increasing the local property tax rate by 8.75 cents. Capital MetroRapid is a bus rapid transit service in Austin, Texas, owned and operated by the Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Capital Metro). It currently consists of two routes which run north-south served by stations designed by McKinney York Architects. Service on the first route, MetroRapid North Lamar/South Congress (Route 801), began on January 26, 2014. It replaced existing MetroBus Routes 1L/1M and the 101 Express, which traveled along the same corridor. Highland Mall was a shopping mall located in north Austin, Texas, United States, on Airport Boulevard west of I-35 and north of US Route 290. Opened in 1971, Highland Mall was Austin's first suburban shopping mall. Highland Mall was jointly owned by General Growth and Simon Property Group until 2011. Austin Community College began acquiring the surrounding land in 2010, assumed ownership of the last parcel it did not already control in August 2011. On April 29, 2015, Highland Mall officially closed its doors. History The Highland Mall opened on August 4, 1971, developed by Austin Malls Inc., a subsidiary of the Rouse Company.
