Creston is a city in and the county seat of Union County, Iowa. The population was 7,536 at the time of the 2020 Census. History Creston was originally settled in 1868 as a survey camp for the Burlington and Missouri Railroad. It was named for the fact that it was on the crest of the railroad line between the Missouri and Mississippi river basins. The area was developed largely for agriculture, with related industries accompanying it. Creston had a flour mill in the early decades of the 20th century. The town was officially established in 1869 and incorporated in 1871. Creston was chosen as the division point for the railroad, who built machine shops, a roundhouse, and a construction camp in the new town. Railroad employees, including African Americans, were recruited from Chicago and other major cities to work in Creston. The Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) is the regulating body for male Iowa high school interscholastic athletics and is a full member of the National Federation of State High School Associations. Its female counterpart, the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, (IGHSAU) is an associate member. Iowa is the only state that maintains separate governing bodies for boys' and girls' athletics. Prescott Community School District was a school district headquartered in Prescott, Iowa, United States. It had a single school, Prescott Community School. History The school building was built in 1914 and the district was established that year. In the 1990s the Prescott district closed its secondary school and only served elementary school; it sent secondary students to other school districts. In the 2014–2015 school year, the school's final year of operation, the elementary school had 34 students. In 2013 the members of the Prescott school board began discussing proposals to consolidate with other area school districts.
